Requested by @nour386: Ford comforting Dipper after a nightmare.
I have this headcanon that whenever Stan or Ford would have a nightmare as a kid they’d sneak down to the kitchen and have a snack and tell funny stories and joke around until whoever had the nightmare was ready to go back to sleep.
When Ford went upstairs to get something to eat, he didn’t expect to see his great nephew sitting at the kitchen table, quickly clicking a pen and staring at the surface of the table.
“Dipper?” Ford spoke. The boy jumped slightly and looked up, but seemed to calm a bit at seeing who it was.
“H-hi, Grunkle Ford,” Dipper greeted, his eyes darting back down.
“What are you doing up so late, my boy?” Ford asked.
“Ha-had a nightmare,” Dipper answered. “Di-didn’t want to wake Mabel.”
Ford frowned slightly, sliding into the chair besides Dipper. He searched for words, carefully planning out what he should say. He played with a loose thread from his sweater and made a mental note to ask Mabel if she could fix it.
“Would you… like to talk about it?” Ford asked. Dipper shook his head. Ford nodded and slowly stood up, going to the kitchen and returning with two sandwiches. He set one down in front of Dipper. The boy looked up at him and he smiled comfortingly. Dipper gave a shakey smile and took the sandwich, biting into it.
“Thanks,” he said quietly.
“You’re welcome,” Ford nodded, taking a bite of his own sandwich. The two of them remained silent for a bit. “Did I ever tell you about the time Stanley and I found the New Jersey Devil?”
Dipper shook his head, although he look intrigued.
“Well, our parents didn’t believe that we saw it, but I swear to you, we really did find it,” Ford began.
