3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
Oh boy. I've already talked a smidge about teacher/student. Yes, including professors and TAs and every single thing that involves grades and giving information/knowledge/lessons/whatever. I mean, maybe I'd be cool with it if student and teacher were nowhere near involved with each other in academic stuff, aka something where student's electrical engineering and professor teaches like russian literature or something student would never be involved with at all. idk. I've got absolutely no problem with the fact other people write it and love it, this is 100% just personal preference and nobody should ever feel bad about enjoying it, but it's just not for me.
14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
~~~~write what you know~~~~
true to a POINT, but the entire point of fiction is writing things you DON'T know. A lot of people take this as like a hard firm rule and end up writing a semi-fictionalized version of their own life and that is good for them I guess but it is not at all the point of writing. Write what you find INTERESTING. There are so many award-winning books of middle-aged professors with their controversial affairs with a young nubile student that it is almost infuriating because GUESS WHO THEY'RE WRITTEN BY, and guess how fucking boring it is to read. Write what you WANT to know, write what you can think up and just fucking go for it. Write what feelings and sensations you know, sure, but everything else? dear god no.
28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
aaaAAAAGH I just said how uncomfortable this makes me.
But I will ALWAYS rec Vathara, so here we go. Basically, Vathara is the deity of crossovers and au plots and worldbuilding. I've been reading their stuff since I was like 13. The amount of research they put into everything they write is mindblowing, the wacky shit she manages to do a crossover with is fantabulous, and. Yes. I am super hesitant to say it but the writing itself could be better, but that's because I know they are capable of beautiful magical miracles and I want to see how good Vathara could really be. I learned so much from reading their stuff. Sooooo much. Vathara is a formative beloved influence. If you want to learn plot and worldbuilding, Vathara is your writer. They've been going hard since 2001. A lot of you are younger than her stuff. tbh I think I am too probably; I still have no fucking clue what "air wolf" is. Something to do with a magic helicopter???
