The boys are in quarantine for the next few days while we deal with a snail infestation and an ammonia spike that hit with it (likely from the snails emitting waste and dying).
I wanted to take this time to show a good, simple, cheap quarantine setup. These are 3 gallon storage tubs that have been cleaned carefully and are full of chilled, dechlorinated water at approximately the same temperature as the main tank.
When we’re not snapping cute photos or doing feedings / cleanings, these are covered and have airholes for ventilation and cooling. I could have just punched holes in the tub lid, but i happened to have some storage baskets that are the exact dimensions needed to cover the tank fully (yay!) With more space, I’d also include a hide, but as it stands, I just use the opaque cover to keep them comfortable.
