A new kind of modern berserk au came to me in a dream.
Imagine: Guts is a relatively normal, albeit scary hardware store owner by day. And at night he's a vigilante driving around town in his truck, slaying demons in the area before they can disrupt the peace. He's legally adopted Isidro and Schierke and although he doesn't like taking them on his vigilante missions he has no choice since they'll both follow him anyways. He's been struggling to teach Isidro to fight the way he needs to and is worried that Schierke will get swept up by the sheer power magic can offer in spite of her talents but he's never given up on them. Puck is also here and he's the same as ever, he's been pucking around with Guts for ages and he's the happiest he's ever been with this new normal they've got. For the most part. There will be shenanigans when he gets bored.
Meanwhile the Holy Iron See exists and still has a massive influence over the world, they've just gained the resources to go underground, to make sure their followers know nothing else but their influence. And Farnese is still in their clutches, instilled with a false sense of righteousness she used to shield herself from the guilt she has about her tumultuous childhood. Serpico is still at Farnese's side, still her bastard brother that's been tethered to her family out of obligation to her after the Vandimions broke their promise of giving his family a better future. Unfortunately they've recently been ordered by Mozgus to hunt down the Hawk of Darkness with the help of Azan, even if it means destroying the idyllic little town he's taken roost in.
But things really get interesting after Guts and Farnese quash their beef because that's when they hear about a witch traveling to town alongside some ladies of the night. And one day they find her on the streets. It's Casca and although she's happy to see Guts she quickly gets miffed when he makes her clamber into the back seat of the truck with everyone else. They ride around town, they dance clumsily outside of Guts' truck and they talk, things are almost perfect. But then Guts hears Casca talk off handedly about her son when she meets up with Luca and the girls again. When questioned Casca explains that when she was in a more regressed state this boy would appear every once in a while, warding off the demons with his very presence and that although she was never able to verbalize it until now she saw him as a son. Guts understands, asking where they can find him and Casca tells him to go to the park. So they do. And amongst the chaos and revelry of the other kids playing they find the Moonlight Boy calmly coloring at a picnic table. He's surprised to see Guts and Casca together at last but he divulges something interesting to Casca nonetheless: The Brand of Sacrifice has functionally made her and Guts immortal as long as no one killed them. Everything that's happened in the Golden Age happened, it's just taken centuries for them to cope with it.
Casca is rightfully shocked by this but when she asks Guts why he never noticed all these changes he simply tells her that he's lost track of time. She's a bit miffed but she brushes it off because now they've got bigger things to worry about: Where is Griffith? And where are the God Hand?
It was a Talaxian freighter. Horrible tragedy. Happened nearly a century ago. After suffering a cascade failure, it began to lose life support generators, one by one. Pretty soon, there wasn't enough air left to sustain the entire crew so they began to draw lots. Can you imagine? Draw the short straw and you suffocate? Anyway, the air continued to diminish, and they kept drawing lots. The crew got smaller and smaller as they waited for someone to rescue them, but no one ever came. The Salvoxia drifted through space for the next eighty years, until somebody finally found her. Makes me short of breath just thinking about it.
Not so quick doodle because I miss my son
