i feel like in general i wish there was more discussion about the women of berserk and how diverse they are. They are contemplative and philosophical and contradictory and failures and winners and soft and kind and warriors and elegant and clumsy and forgiving and redemptive.

I think a major theme of berserk that we see throughout is that women are more driven to fight for what they believe in and men are more likely to be money and sex driven. Supplementary female characters such as Luca and her gang drive the narrative and provide a lot of intrigue and support, while supplementary male characters are sword fodder and r*pists. Obviously there are outliers, such as the old man who helped isidro, but for the most part this is true.

I believe the use of sa is definitely overused and i always skip mostly over those parts during rereads, but berserk the manga does not hate women, rather caricaturizes the men that do. SA is portrayed as the most common and foul evil that appears. Our main protagonist and his partner experience a beautiful sex scene together where they jointly heal each other from their previous poor experiences, something I think is a rare gem in media.

Farnese is an incredibly inspiring character in her journey to be competent, Schierke constantly drops wise and compassionate lines of dialogue, and Jill and Rosine incarnate the wild nature of girls who feel cheated by a society not made for them. And Chitch … just the purest little soul.

Anyway, they’re what make berserk worth reading.
