On the Road Again by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: One of many images captured on the La Sal Mountain Loop with a view looking south to the namesake mountains. After some adjustments to contrast and brightness with color control points in Capture NX2, I cropped some of the foreground to make a more panoramic feel and then added a Skylight CEP filter with a linear gradient to highlight the sun that seemed to be coming out through the clouds that afternoon.

Scenic and Historic Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast from an overlook at the visitor center to sandstone formations and buttes present in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. My thought on composing this image was to pull back on the focal length and capture a sweeping view looking across this high desert landscape in northern Arizona. I felt that bringing the horizon a little higher into the image would help create more of a sense of grander to the distant sandstone formations and buttes. There would be some blue skies above to be a color contrast to the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.

An Amazing Setting for the Maligne Lake Boat House (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views as I walked around the Maligne Lake area in Jasper National Park. What I wanted to capture with this image was the setting of the lake with the mountains as a backdrop. I really liked how the boat house was part of this image and the color contrast it had with the earth-tones in the remaining portion of the image.

My Navigations in Monument Valley by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a overlook around the visitor center with a view looking to the southeast to sandstone formations and buttes present in this part of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. What I wanted to capture with this view was a look to the formations off in the distance. I took advantage of the high ground I was located on the capture more of a sweeping view across this high desert landscape, while attempting to align and center formations. The dirt road is the 4 wheel drive road that goes further into the tribal park, Maybe on another trip, I’ll have a rental car to handle that :-)

Navigating Waterton Lakes National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pull off with a view looking to the southeast along the Red Rock Parkway in Waterton Lakes National Park. With this image, I wanted to capture a view using the road as a leading line into the image with the ridges and peaks of Sofa Mountain as a backdrop. I liked the layered look created by the nearby hillsides with the road ahead. The rest was just aligning myself with the center line and attempting to balance both sides of the road with the setting to my front.
