Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear (Glacier National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along the main park road in the Many Glacier area with a view looking to the northeast (and southwest with the mirror reflection). This is in Glacier National Park. I had come across the idea for an image like this using a sideview mirror quite a few years ago and have remembered to capture different images from places in national parks I’ve visited. With this one, I focused on the road leading into this part of the national park with the mountains off the distance. Looking with One Lens and Then Through Another by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: Looking with One Lens and Then Through Another Yet I have only one pair of eyes I hold a camera in each hand But it’s the beyond that has the wonder I came to this place only while out on a walk And found much more than I expected I should continue going through life with that view And find the heaven on earth each day I live Another work of short poetry or prose that serves as a companion to the image captured one morning while walking the streets of Mount Shasta, California. The view is to the northeast and uses both sides of the open street as leading lines into the composition. Mount Shasta stands tall as the backdrop, seemingly rising into the heavens above. The camera in my left hand is a Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera with the LCD LiveView screen turned on with Mount Shasta. I captured this image with my iPhone.

Hiking and Exploring in Jasper National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While hiking the Valley of the Five Lakes Trail in Jasper National Park.. The view is looking to the northeast behind some nearby evergreen trees to a more distant ridge with them and then a backdrop of ridges and peaks with Mount Tekarra and the Maligne Range.

Tall Trees All Around Me As I Journey the Sunset Trail in Hot Springs National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A portrait orientation to a setting I came across while walking the Sunset Trail in Hot Springs National Park. This was on the backside of Sugarloaf Mountain with a view looking to the northeast. With this image, I decided to include more of the upper portion of the trees in addition to the hiking trail as a leading line. My thinking was a portrait orientation would capture more of that look above with the autumn colors and sunlight in this national park setting.

Seeing the Lake Beyond the Trees by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While the trees did somewhat obscure the lake and reflections, I liked how they created this setting where one has to want to get into the image in order to see just beyond those nearby trees to the reflections and forest on the far shoreline. This was captured walking the trail around Talkeetna Lakes Park.

Once You Find Your True North, You Can Turn and Go Any Direction... (Congaree National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: An image idea I got from a few other photographer where I used a compass in hand with a backdrop of a famous or iconic setting. In this case, it was the forested setting of bald cypress trees and the raised boardwalk trail. The rest of this was composing and lining up my hand (with compass) and then metering to get that right exposure.
