Posted in Reddit by u/HAZMAT_Eater in r/PoorAzula (yes, I follow that group, and She isn't my favourite character), an interesting view from a fan of a crack ship that I don't hate or like it, but I find interesting for many crackships, and I say that as a fan of Jetzula, with the knowledge that It would be problematic (not for the questions about characterizations of the characters, but more as partecipation to Canon Sources, whatever my ideas could be about some Canon Elements and the Retcons inside of them).

This doesn't mean that "oh, You're against fanfictions" or "you tolerate Konietzko and Di Martino stupid choices" NO IT ISN'T! Just a remember, a Memento Mori, cause we have to not confuse what we want with what we have. And if you want to make a better work without the Retcons made with LoK ad the Comics, You're Right and I support you, but we have to remember that there is Logic and some limitations, and whatever would be the changes in your fanfictions, you have to recognize the characterizations of the characters.

As everyone is probably aware, I am an Azula fan. And I've been left..."estranged" is the best word I can say from the franchise. I think I speak for a lot of people that how the comics' handled her hurt a lot of us. Pretty deeply. Characters we used to look up to were now reenacting every nightmare scenario we could've imagined.

Azula in the Spirit Temple was a step in the right direction, but the fact is for a lot of us, it's going to take a long time to recover. The near future is going to be hard for the old guard. Full of uncertainty both with the Netflix remake and the upcoming Avatar Studios movies (if they ever get released). This is on top of a decade of bad takes which hit every button and some pretty upsetting content that'll form a bedrock for new stories going forward.

So, I get the apprehension. I really do. Hell, I was right there when the Azula comic came out. It's the same anxiety that kept me on the backend, wondering what else they're going to put her through next. Particularly with how for such a long time, the comics were the only real continuation we had of the original series. Made us feel that we didn't have a voice in the wider community.

Course the obvious consensus is that we're obsessed. And perhaps that is true. I feel though that Azula means a lot to every one of us. For me, her story was that of self-destructive perfectionism and striving for belonging in a world against her. Finding something that would never come. Struggling with one's own mental health. Being raised in a society that teaches you to be a soldier and adult first, human being and child second.

She meant a lot to me. As she means to so many others. And nothing is going to take that away from us.

Times have changed. Azula's perception is being rewritten in the fandom at large, possibly within the franchise as a whole. Obviously, there's always going to be naysayers, and I understand that breaking bread and coming back to the fandom is asking a lot. So I won't. There are uncertain times ahead. And for many of us, it will be painful.

Know then that you are not alone. There's others that feel the same way you do. And we're in this together.

The Order of The Blue Lotus Is Officially Here!

Although the main Admin focusas is still setting things up and we’re discussing about it, this will be a blog dedicated to all things Azula and fan appreciation. I’m sure the others will add more of a description in the bio.

I am Hades or better known as thesoulzofhades and I will be posting on here at times. I will reblog some of my art, too but not just yet. My DeviantArt is http://the-blue-dragon-lord.deviantart.com just to clarify that this is all my content and I’m no a peasant imposer. I have a few online pseudonyms.

If I can remember, this whole “Blue Lotus” name was kind of from my idea for what Azula’s loyalest fans should be known as, unless others had the idea at the same time? It’s kind of like how we had Zaheer’s whole “Red Lotus” on LoK. As for “Azulism” or any other names, I can’t claim that one. I can’t forget to mention salixj who pretty much suggested the idea of a separate blog and is also apart of this. Mostly for fics on Azula. Fics that have a happier outcome or alternative, but of course it would also be kept real to what Azula’s character has gone through. It can’t be all without some sad moments or that wouldn’t be good story telling. There can be some happy ones, too (if you want more fluff fics).

As for shipping, we’ll further discuss this because shipping can cause conflict. There are people like myself who ship Azula with Ty Lee (Tyzula) and then there’s Focusas who ships Azula with Sokka (Sokkla). We will try to respect each others ships. In the end, we all want to see Azula happy. Shipping wars are pointless when you all love the same character.
