We can’t catch a break with the fires this year. Fourth fire in my area in the last month. The Bobcat Fire, which has ripped through 4,871 acres by Monday morning, was reported Sunday around 1 p.m. near Cogswell Dam, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Containment as of Monday morning remained at 0%. Recourses are so stretched thin with a larger Yucaipa fire caused from a gender reveal party so we don’t have air resources fighting this one at the moment. They’ve shut down the mountains and forest due to this for an unknown amount of time. If you’re going to have a fire pit, be aware of wind and dry fuel sources around you. If you’re using smoke for a gender reveal party, using smoke to signal etc. be aware of your surroundings and keep a clear area around you. Be prepared with a shovel and fire extinguisher if you happen to have one. We had another fire in my area yesterday while I was at work. What I thought was a couple miles from my house was as close as four blocks and ash coming down like snow flurries. If you live in an area prone to forest fires, earthquakes, tornados, flooding or other disasters make sure to have a plan. If you hike or camp in areas prone to fires, have a plan to get out or a place to hunker down that isn’t prone to fires or already burnt from a previous fire since it works as a natural fire break. After fires, be aware of rain as the areas become prone to flooding. I keep frozen water bottles in the freezer in case we suffer a power outage to keep it cold and reduce mildew growth since the ice is contained. Have a good weekend everyone and take care!
