Okay, so in light of the whole Concrete controversy, I saw a redesign by @gyrosylla187 and was inspired to make my own! I’ve used some of the ideas from the original, and yeah I know my design is a bit wonky (Inconsistency and all) and if I draw her again there’s gonna be some changes to her look in the future (most likely poofier hair and eyes that are closer together). But I’m pretty happy with how this turned out, and I hope y’all like it too :D
In this redesign, Concrete/Dravite is a designer! She designs the clothing for custom Pearls and other gems, and makes items like the cape we saw Jasper wearing in season 1. Eventually, she joins the crystal gems and works along Bismuth to design and create armor.
Her personality while on homeworld is more bashful and a bit closed off. She tended to be more shy, reluctant to voice her opinions, and when she did speak up she felt downright stupid. But joining the CGs gave her the confidence to open up and speak up when she felt like she needed to be heard. Another thing that happened was that she is more intelligent than she perceives herself.
In the original design, it is stated that she cannot read. This is not exactly the case in my redesign. While working under homeworld, Concrete/Dravite could not read well. She struggled with it, and it made her feel unintelligent. Her clients would also berate her for it. But while with the Crystal Gems, she discovered that she wasn’t stupid or dumb or anything like that: She had dyslexia, (Or something similar to it. It is possible for gems to be dyslexic?) and was unaware of it. And, with a bit of help, identifying what her main issues were, and practice, she could read just as better as any scribe or linguist homeworld had to offer, and proved to anyone that doubted her that she was just as cable and smart as any other gem.
