Megamorphs #4: Back To Before notes pt3
Humans vs. Alien Invaders Mall Showdown. Cornerstone of teen sci-fi and also so many dreams that I've had.
Marco really does just die. Partly because as the intelligence officer he's least useful with them running behind, partly because Jake can't have nice things at this point in the series.
You know who else just dies? Tobias! They know he's implicated and they're stalking Tom but they don't even notice he disappeared! "We're going to find out what Tom and that Tobias kid are up to" he's dead! He must have had classes with at least one of you! Guys!
Obviously I have a lot of feelings about the stacked deck and the Berensons being the wild cards that made the hand cohesive. The war hinges on Jake who didn't want it once he saw consequences, and still doesn't when he and Rachel are so consumed by it. Rachel is an adrenaline junkie, not a monster, but with nothing personal at stake the war is a game, a challenge. Jake ages years with every thing that goes wrong, the weight of the war pressing him down, breaking his back. I don't want to give in, but a normal life? Where I can be a normal person, a good person, without all the grey areas? Please, Crayak. Why should world's hinge on my personal stake in a war that predates my birth. Why should I lead an army so desperately outnumbered when all I wanted was a normal family with my brother safe?
And, just because I didn't talk about non-socialised Ax much a) I don't know how he was sleeping in the mental hospital even if the staff didn't believe that guy who saw him out of morph b) love that he got caught in the explaining to random strangers loop c) a bunch of teenagers save his life and his response is "you're getting in my way" come here I need to introduce you to your best friends.
