On My Playlist #19 “Back Against the Wall” - Cage the Elephant (2008) In a cold cold night, I went into a 7-Eleven near Union Square. The last of the only three occasions in my four years in the US. I heard a song I had previously never heard, yet the singer sounded very familiar. It turned out to be a single off the band’s latest album. I already forgot what it was called (I did look it up though). I no longer follow them. But whenever I hear the voice, it reminds me of something bittersweet in my pre-US years. Sometimes it hurts, sometimes it doesn’t. One thing I’m certain was that I didn’t want the feeling at that moment.
