Redid a background for my newest comic!

I spent 7-8 hours finishing 1 comic page so this comic will take a while! It's all going to be in color and extra polished however, so I hope the wait will be worth it!

This will be my 4th comic, you can find the previous one here!

Yay!! Isn't it all so pretty and colorful! I may still have to make some changes or fixes later on, but I think all that time paid off!

Oh ya, I redesigned a bunch of characters so I'll have to include new design sheets in the comic somehow as well!

WIP of me turning a chapter from my book into a comic. Literally several concept art sketches in and 7 hours actually drawing we’re still not done with the 1st page :,)

1st I sketched out the school hallways and atrium. I tried to go for an elaborate, almost gothic architecture style. You can see some of the notes that I scribbled in the 1st spread of the personality of the building, but in case you can read it I will summarize:

basically I talked about how the halls dedicated to each Tribe had the detailwork done by people from each Tribe. The hall depicted is a Mare Tribe hall, so the small windows in each class door have stained glass that resembles the ocean.

The Tribes made an alliance after a war with each other, so this was to symbolize how all the Tribes came together to work as one, each hall is connected by the atrium, which used to be meetinghouse (likely occupied by what was to become Caligo Tribe) during the war. The meetinghoue was then refurbished to be a school for all Tribes - Concordia Academics for the Tribes. A long-standing school still made widely accessible to the public.

Naturally because of its history and how old it is, the students have some pretty wild (and possibly true???) ghost stories for it.

It’s about to get a lot more ~fun~ history added to it. Yippee!!

Anyway so I did that, designed Night’s treehouse, and did some quick concept work for a couple outfits; mainly the school uniforms and Night and Talon’s pj’s.

Night’s treehouse is kinda weird - I would love to make it a part of the islands history - but Night managed to kinda freshen it up a bit and make it his safe space. He used to just go and work on it (or just chill in it) if life was hitting him particularly hard that day, but now he basically sneaks out to go there almost everynight after everyone’s asleep. When Night sneaks out, he’s usually just in his pj’s, but in the colder nights he layers up with the cloak for his school uniform.

Speaking of school uniforms! I really wanted to make the school uniforms gender neutral, but considering the era I want to emulate (late victorian/edwardian era) I knew it would make the most sense for the ladies to wear skirts typically. I imagine you can request for something different if you would like (the boys can wear skirts if they want to), in case your expression doesn’t really fit the gender binary.

Lastly, I started thumbnailing pages for this chapter. I’m not even into the next scene in my book so this is gonna take a bit lmao. We’re about halfway done with the writing before the first page break in thumbnailing alone.

Actually lastly, the lineart and color mapping for the first page. This is as far as I’ve gotten with the comic :,)

This shit takes time. Maybe one day I’ll post the written chapter.
