Awww ❤️ thank you!!
Dyscalculic here currently working at an optometrist's office. Not only are there tons of numbers, everything you do is mirrored to match the patient's pov. It's the worst possible situation for someone like me, but I'm determined to figure this out. I keep messing up and I'm worried they'll fire me. (I'm new) Any encouragement/suggestions?
firstly, if they find out about your disability and fire you that's illegal (In the USA, not sure about other countries) if that happened you could sue them and win. it violates the americans with disabilities act
i'm not sure exactly what your job requires you to do, but if you need your patients to do something on a specific side maybe try holding up your hand on the side you would like them to use and say could you do ____ on this side. if that doesn't work, people generally have a good sense of humor and if it takes you a second to figure out right or left, or you had a moment and got them mixed up. just laugh it off and say “sorry weird moment,” or “wow maybe I haven't woken up yet this morning” I tend to do that when I don't want to explain my disabilities to someone. Even people without a disability get mixed up sometimes.
I know you are new and might not be working in one room but maybe you could ask to tape a tiny R and L on the appropriate sides of the room so when you're facing the patient you can glance at the wall behind them to help you figure out which side is which.
and honestly, as long as you are trying your hardest getting mixed up isn't that bad as long as you are kind and work well with your patients i'm sure they wont mind. it wouldn't hurt to find out if the people you are working with are open to discussing disabilities, being able to talk with them may help you figure out some strategies. im sure you can make this work you sound pretty dedicated.
I saw you screenshotted and uploaded on Pinterest and had to do a double take. Curiosity-killed out and about.
:O what!!
idk how i feel about this. partially bc I am willing to bet IRL dollars that it was a stupid ass text post
Me again: re SJM
Hold up. You've caught my academic interest. I forced myself through the first two books and was fascinated by the strict traditional gender roles glaring through the awful writing. Now you're telling me there's pro-life rhetoric, imperialism, and racism???
Tell me more so I don't have to read these for science.
Signed,
Someone with an MA in English lit who is debating on if it's worth analyzing these or just letting them lie. (I'm not strong enough to make it through another 600 pages of asshole Rhysand)
BJKbkvdsbakbkbij academic alarms going off!!!
I honestly can't tell you much about ACOTAR aside from second-hand knowledge bc I too only read a book and a half of it. My experience lies with those themes as shown in ToG, and I've mentioned them a few times over the years and they can be found strewn about here and here. I'd also suggest looking up proper analysis on why SJM's writing is problematic, but I can't give you any because I've been collecting knowledge about this woman from various places for almost a decade and can't remember what I've heard where, so if anyone has any sources pls drop them in the replies!
Hope you don't put yourself through these books, your MA would cry~
EDIT: an anon suggested this video on feminism and sexism in the ACOTAR series
I'm here for the SJM bash. My friend has made me read the first two. I'm suing for emotional damages.
BJbdskjabk it's SUCHHH an universal experience, having a friend who is super obsessed with ACOTAR and they try to get you into it too and they don't get why you can't do it... Justice for the suffering!!!
You can (and will) Fuck around and find out! For those who know, know…. #inmybag #backtomycorner #thatsmybestfriend https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn_UeSgMFXr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
backtomycorner replied to your post “I’m giving feedback on high school students’ papers and on the whole,...”
The hashtag campaign??
Oh Yes. this student was uh. remarkable in their creativity and lack of apparent concern for pragmatism
