I hope someone out there on this hellsite (deeply affectionate) will get me when I say that Lestat saying “I’m happy it was you here with me” to Louis, the love of his life, at whose hand the said life of his is about to end, speaks to me as a distant echo of Neil in Tenet (2020) knee-jerkingly responding “so would I” — to the Protagonist who just told him that if Neil were ever to be killed in a mission, he’d rather that the decision to end Neil’s life be his own — all the while knowing that that scenario — Neil happily dies at the hands of the Protagonist — is exactly how things are going to be, having literally been sent to the present mission by the future/past Protagonist so that Neil can die protecting the man he would die protecting.
