Ateez's Full Storyline Explained - Part 28:

'BAD' Official MV (E-World)

Timeline-wise, this MV takes place prior to A-World Ateez's arrival, meaning we're pre-'Adrenaline'.

We're opening on the wedding between Sopro and its latest victim, but right as the groom is about to slide the ring onto Sopro's already overloaded finger, the venue doors are pushed open and Seonghwa walks in to the sound of a guitar strum before the title card appears.

All eyes instantly turn to Seonghwa. He walks deeper into the room, right down the aisle, before he begins to dance with all guests in attendance serving as his backup dancers.

From a distance, he then makes a move to smack the camera which leads it to swing around and reveal Yunho as the person previously hidden away behind a large bouquet in the background.

While performing, Yunho closes in on Sopro, though right when he reaches it, the camera swings over to capture San who pulls off the mask covering his face, revealing he was playing the groom all along.

This entire wedding is a full-on sting operation.

We travel back in time to a hair salon which is precisely when the parallels to 'Bouncy' come into play. Because this Ateez is their world's version of the Black Pirates - hence Hongjoong's eye patch which we already saw in 'Adrenaline'.

Side-note: It's really interesting how A-World's Ateez didn't need to found the Black Pirates in their own world thanks to Halazia's Hongjoong and Seonghwa who got rid of A-World's Z in 'Matz'. It now makes me wonder what E-World's Z is currently up to, given that their main opponent right now is Sopro instead of him. Is he already rising to power? Or is he a cult leader somewhere like he was in A-World? Is it him or Sopro who are responsible for the desert planet we see in 'Adrenaline'?

Before we continue, let's take a moment to appreciate the shrine to Yeosang going on here and say hello to the redhead from the trailer who warned us about 'the dangerous woman' (aka Sopro):

Side-note: Who the heck is running this hair salon? Is it San? Is that why pictures of Yeosang are plastered everywhere? Does Yeosang know about this? (Also, I know this is all just here as a gag, but Halazia Yeosang being here could legit be canon since they traveled between worlds quite a bit more than any other version of Ateez we know about. Did they get rid of Z here then too? Guess we'll have to wait and see...)

So from the redhead being at the hair salon, we can gather that - at this point in time - Ateez were going around interviewing people who've already had an encounter with 'the woman' (Sopro in its current form) which must've allowed them to learn its modus operandi. They're roughly at the stage A-World's Ateez were at in the In Your Fantasy Version Diary Entries.

Following the interviewing process, the 'Bouncy' section of the mission then begins: Ateez split up to complete multiple missions at once. Half the members (Wooyoung, Yeosang, Jongho, and San) start staging one-on-one encounters between them and Sopro - always while a second member keeps watch from a distance to ensure things don't escalate.

Simultaneously, the other half of the members are... in a jewelry store and eating chili peppers. I don't know, man - in 'Bouncy', they were using the chili peppers to smuggle high-tech bullets that could take down an Android Guardian, but their opponent here isn't Z, but Sopro, so it must be something else.

Given the type of store Mingi was in, they might be looking into developing some kind of jewelry that can protect them from Sopro's influence or whatever - I don't know, honestly.

Back at the hair salon, we then get a closeup of the newspaper (shout out to yet another actor we've already seen in the trailer!) which reads:

ATZ News .com

SHE IS SO BAD!

BAD!

Too wild to understand?

(What is) she hiding?

She lied again

Inside the verdict

Fashion icon to fall guy / All eyes on her

What happens next?

Side-note: I was focusing so hard on the newspaper, it took me ages to notice the person with the poodle head in the background.

In another throwback to the trailer, we then see Ateez outside the 'Love & Psychic' building with its motto of 'Joy Sadness Shame / Chase the spirit'. As a reminder: this is the place where the members were getting hypnotized so they could recall their encounters with Sopro.

Once their minds are cleared of Sopro's influence, all the pieces fall into place, but instead of trying to trap or kill Sopro, Ateez seemingly opt for the legal route by taking the matter to court. This kinda makes sense -after all, they don't seem to have a fascist government like Z-World did and they probably don't yet know the true extent of Sopro's powers. They might just think this is a regular person with weird psychic abilities.

Unfortunately for them though, Sopro is actually a spirit with the capacity to take down worlds and it already has its claws sunk into all members of the jury before the court proceedings have even begun.

On that note: I have some questions. Sopro is likely just representing itself, but who the heck is the lawyer on Ateez's side? Could they even find someone who wasn't already under Sopro's control? Or is one of THEM representing their side? If so - does one of them have a law degree? Any knowledge of the law at all? Does he know how to file a motion with the judge? If not, what were they banking on? What did they think would happen in this courtroom?

here’s what i noticed watching the bad mv at 0.25x speed!

general points: everyone in the mv is serving all the time and the styling is impeccable, especially the backup dancers during mingi’s rap but that might just be me being a lesbian

into the interesting potential lore!:

there’s a bird guy at the barbershop

for some reason, the barbershop has a yeosang shrine, which bird guy is looking at

when sopro’s eyes turn red, bird guy’s (who’s looking at the yeosang shrine) eyes also turn red

hopefully the lore diaries will give us more info because i’m super curious about what’s going on!
