Bahariasaurus was a large theropod dinosaur from the late Cretaceous period, around 95 million years ago in the Cenomanian age. It was found in the Bahariya Formation in El-Waha el-Bahariya (or Bahariya oasis) in Egypt and in the Kem Kem Beds of North Africa. It was around the same size as Tyrannosaurus, and Carcharodontosaurus. The first specimen found was, unfortunately, destroyed during World War II. It's placement in the dinosaur family tree is under much debate, and has been assigned to everything from Tyrannosauroidea to Carcharodontosauridae to Ceratosauria to now the Megaraptors. There is confusion on whether it is a distinct genus from Deltadromeus, which it heavily resembles, and since the type specimen was destroyed it is impossible to reexamine the specimens and compare them. It was probably a gracile, long legged predator, and thus a fast runner and probably a fierce-some predator. It probably had to share its environment, however, with many other large predators, such as Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus, both of which were bigger than Bahariasaurus and would have posed a threat to the theropod.
