So I finally found where I could watch Ayakashi: bake neko, and i gotta say after watching the mononoke spin-off, I'm disappointed....
....Bc the Ayakashi story was the best one, and the fact its the first one (that I ended up watching last) kinda puts Mononoke to shame.
Don't get me wrong Mononoke was good, but compared to Ayakashi: bake neko? Mediocre.
Medicine seller had way more personality in just the first episode of A:BN than the whole of Mononoke series, and the story itself was really well told, though it still had the vagueness that frustrated me in the mononoke series. They leave it to the viewers imagination to fill in what's implied way too often.
I wish I could find it somewhere in HD bc the highest quality I could find was 480 which spoils all the beautiful visuals a bit.
Got stuck in the train for two hours so here's the result of an hour and 20 minutes of sketching. It's Nightshade in the new 'Hotline to Hell' AU I'm still trying to explore. Here, Nightshade is more demonic so she gets some crazy eyes, pointy ears, funky feet and a forked tail! Supposedly based off the bakeneko of Japanese mythology but really she can shapeshift into whatever form she pleases.
