“After this, I’m giving you a haircut.” Nikki said playfully.
Intense, he gazed at you over his shoulder. You chuckled, looping a towel around his back then combing his hair behind his ears. Wine sweetened your breath. You knew in your gut this wouldn’t go well, yet your head whirled too fast for it to sink so it stayed a nudge on your back.
You kissed Nikki briefly. He grinned while you pulled away. You whiffed the alcohol staining his breath.
“You can try.” You soothed, “Now sit back. Stay still.”
“I don’t think I can.” He teased.
You pushed his shoulders down, tilted his head up and tipped it forward. “There. Stay like that.” You said, glimpsing up at him then back down. As you reached for a pile of hair ties on the vanity, you paused, your mind blanking. ‘How do I do this?’ You asked yourself. He locked eyes with your reflection, wearing that crooked dark smile of his that made heat burst inside you.
While you wondered what he was thinking, you sectioned his hair then tied it. You cackled when you looped the band around your fingers instead of his jet hair. He chuckled when you showed him. He stationed his elbow on the arm of the chair, rubbing his temple, amused. When you leaned over him for more hair ties, he touched your waist. You tingled.
“You look amazing.” His eyes passed over you.
“Is it just cause your drunk?”
“Are you projecting?” He joked.
You kissed his cheek before combing one of the hundred tiny ponytails you’d made on him. You finally swept up the scissors—he bit his lip. Your hands locked up. You focused. You swore it hurt your brain a bit. You tried your best not to keep swaying like a maniac as you tugged one ponytail and snipped the edge of it.
‘That didn’t go so bad.’ You thought as a weight slid off your back and shoulders. You couldn’t help but smile. Your guts uncoiled. You pulled the ponytail beside it straight, imagined a straight line between the end of it and the one you’d cut and snipped it. You grinned. A rush surged through your chest. ‘I’m actually pretty good at this! That’s even as hell!’
Nikki’s grip on the arm tightened. “You don’t trust me?” You teased after a couple quick glances up.
“I’m a good boy.” He groaned, a little pouty, “So yes.” The two of you giggled. He slumped a little. You bopped his jaw with the comb.
“Sit up.” You chided. He pushed himself up.
“I’m excited.” He opined, “It’ll look great. You’re like a goddamn wizard sometimes.”
“.. I know what I’m doing!” You replied with a big, awkward grin.
Then you choked back a gasp. Your heart plummeted. You’d chopped half off a ponytail. You winced lightly. He rose slowly.
“What did you do?” He asked, worried but still lighthearted.
“Just a mistake, I can fix it.”
“I know you know but keep it long.”
“.. what if I cut one too short?”
“It’s just one.”
“You’re right.” You shrugged off your tension, “It should be fine, right?”
“Right.” He smirked.
His eyes followed your reflection as you chopped. Your heartbeat quickened as you imagined the final result of the haircut—better than Vince’s. A shit eating grin flooded your face. His too, as if he could read your mind. You locked eyes with him through his reflection. Heat simmered inside. You just knew it did him too. Your smile spread.
You fumbled to tug out the ponytails. “Ow!” He complained.
“Just hold out, I swear to god it’ll be worth it!” You playfully replied, to which he chortled. The bands scattered around the floor after you tossed them. He fidgeted a little. Your breathing hitched. When his hair was down you ruffled it, grabbed the hairspray, ruffled it again, bit your lip then got more spray.
“Is it that bad?” He teased.
“.. It won’t work with me.” You replied through grit teeth.
He bit his fingernails. His eyes widened a little. “Have some faith in me.” You murmured. He huffed. You huffed dramatically back and you both laughed. You prayed a ton around his scalp, ran a brush through it, pulled at it then repeated the cycle. You snipped in a few places before stepping back. He’d closed his eyes for some time before you tapped his shoulder.
“What do you think?” You chorused.
When he saw it he went rigid. He looked as if his heart dropped a thousand feet then like he’d faint. He reached back, taking your hand tight. You grinned widely. His jaw dropped at his new glorified rocker bowl cut.
“Why don’t we find you a new niche?” He strained.
“Are you sure..? You don’t like it?!” You bleated.
“I.. love it. You did.. uh, passionately!” He said quickly between filling your hand with quick kisses.
You two kissed. Warmth blossomed between your lips. You laid your head on his for a moment before pulling back.
“Don’t you wanna give it a go?” You purred, raising your brow.
He smirked, picking up the scissors.
