Mixing Frustrations
I thought the hardest part of recording was going to be the recording process, but man was I wrong. Recording was easy compared to what we’re doing now: mixing. Mixing has been full of frustrations. At least for me. Why you may ask? Because I can’t get my bandmates to come into the studio to make sure their parts sound good. I can barely get them to email me their feedback to each mix. We’ve been working on one song for the past few weeks.
It should have been done by now, but it feels like I’m pulling teeth to get these guys to do their part. I realize it’s the holidays, but how is it that I’m the only one who literally drops everything to make sure things happen? It makes me feel like a loser to be honest. The bassist has a life, the drummer has kids and me? I apparently have nothing better to do than make sure this EP sees the light of day. The bassist bailed on me last minute yesterday so I had to go into the studio by myself and do his mix for him. And for the drummer.
Thankfully Mark, the sound engineer, knows what he’s doing so we took the feedback the band emailed and did the best we could. Mark wanted us to have all three songs mixed and mastered before the New Year, but I can see now that’s definitely not going to happen. The silver lining is that we get more time to finish more songs so that we can have a proper set list to start playing shows when we finally release this EP. My goal is to be playing out by the time this EP is released. But we’ve still got some work to do.
