I fear I may need the milk of the poppy to endure the pain of the season one finale of the GAME OF THRONES universe series A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS. Six short episodes - literally short; the longest episode was 41 minutes - and the end is nigh for the adventures of Dunk and Egg.
All hail Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell as Dunk and Egg and showrunner Ira Parker and his cast for an exquisite season (unless the finale upends everything and then I'll act as disgruntled as the watchers of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON.
The Season So Far (CONTAINS AS MANY SPOILERS AS TARGARYENS WITH THE SAME NAME)
I loved the first episode but I worried that the humorous tone would be too much for fans of GAME OF THRONES / HOUSE OF THE DRAGON and it was, but not as much as the gross out aspects that were a part of the humour. I hope the showrunners aren't deterred by the reaction: this is AKOTSK, we have schlongs, diarrhea, spit, vomit here - if you can't handle it take your sensitive *ss back to MERLIN.
And yes, this even means the seemingly light jabs at the flagship show.
-We get a lot of cutaways to Dunk's life with Ser Arlan who wasn't the best teacher for Dunk, but I understand his fidelity to Ser Arlan outside of Dunk just not having anywhere to go.
Ser Arlan is a drunkard but he still comes through.
Dunk wants to be a knight, but he finds out that it's not as easy as it seems.
Along the way he briefly meets Egg who follows him to Ashford.
When there, things goes south
and the blame is on a Targaryen (what else is new??)?
This time though, this Targaryen - Aerion - while a whole brat like Viserys and Joffrey "Baratheon"; he's not a total coward. He's a formidable foe and has the best armour I've ever seen.
I still hate you!!!
It's here that Dunk finds out that Egg is not a lowly Flea Bottom orphan, but Aegon Targaryen. Egg has to ditch his poor cosplay and return to royal attire.
-His wretched brother Aerion starts a fight that he can't finish.
Aerion, hides behind an antiquated fight rule so as to not face Dunk alone in combat. Dunk has to enlist some fighters.
Takes me back.
Dunk -
Who has that dawg in him through and through.
-wins...but at a cost. There's always a cost.
It would not be a Game of Thrones 'verse series if a good, honorable man doesn't die. I was very laidback about the series initially because I know the house histories, I know what happens. What I didn't expect was to love the characterizations so much and now that I "know" the characters, I'm devastated by what happens in their future.
people who are whining about how javert isn’t good gay rep because he’s a cop miss the fact that he’s good gay rep because he sells his soul and his life to a system that hates him, and it’s not even a “i didn’t think the leopards would eat my face!” situation, no, he’s painfully aware of the fact that the second he steps out of line, he’ll be devoured. like how are y’all not relating to this?
