رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Arab-Latin: Rabbanā ātinā fid-dun-yā ḥasanat(aw) wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanat(aw) wa qinā 'ażāban-nār

English: Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the fire.

Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنه reported that while Jibreel عليه السلام was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ, he heard a creaking sound above him. He lifted his head and said: This is a gate opened in heaven today which had never been opened before. Then when an angel descended through it, he said: This is an angel who came down to the earth who had never come down before. He greeted and said: Rejoice in two lights given to you which have not been given to any prophet before you: Fatihat al-Kitab and the concluding verses of Surah al-Baqarah. You will never recite a letter from them for which you will not be given (a reward). [Sahih Muslim 806]

Except those who repent and amend and make manifest (the truth), these it is to whom I turn (mercifully); and I am the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful. (2.160)
