the Autistic Lesbian Barbie movie...
i watched this movie the other day and i HAVE to talk about. Barbie and the Secret Door directed by Karen J. Lloyd (fun fact! first barbie animated movie directed by a woman!!!) stars Alexa a princess who despises any kind of social interaction and much prefers to bury her nose in books instead.
she then discovers a secret world!!! to a world of magic, fairies and unicorns but oh no! the magic is being stolen and only SHE can help them!!
it's such a wonderful movie 🥹 barbie is SO autistic coded in this movie with how much she hates social interaction and even the SET of the other world is incredibly lesbian coded like...
DO YOU SEE THIS COLOUR PALETTE?
also one of the magical creatures says the line "what is a boy?" which is. amazing. incredible. showstopping. also barbie has not one BUT TWO girlfriends in this movie and yes it's such a great movie (plus the unicorns are so pretty!!!!!)
IF YOU LIKE BARBIE MOVIES AND YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THIS ONE!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? GO WATCH RN RN RN RN!!!!!!!!!
Another amazing Barbie 2023 did was it showed that the patriarchy not only hurts women but men too. The patriarchy sets a standard for how a woman must behave but also for how a man must. He must be cold, but social. Sexist, but have a girlfriend / wife. In all the ways embody the extremes of masculinity. And men who push against this idea are also discriminated against. In the real world this would be gay men, trans men, men of different cultures (thus other standards of what masculinity entails), and basically all men who do not conform to the ideas set by the patriarchy. Barbie represents these men through Allan. He does not entail to what the patriarchy sees as a "man" thus is also discriminated against.
Barbie does so much for women and i think thats where the spotlight should also be on but i noticed this little tidbit and found it interesting.
The Barbie movie made me feel valid for keeping my dolls, toys and plushies and I appreciate it so much for that
I think it's funny how all the people who say that The Barbie movie was just a "big feminist propaganda" and "anti-male" and other stuff like this clearly didn't watch the whole film. And if yes, they are so blinded by gender roles and politicised bullcrap and whatever they have in their head that they just will hate on it and wont see the true message.
About being kind to one another. About being equal. About being brave, even though the adult world might seem scary. About showing emotions, naturally, without romanticising, even the ugly ones. About seeing beauty in all that surrounds us and in one another and our life. It's about being yourself. About being alive. About being human.
You can find all this and most likely even more in there. Or you can choose to just not and stay blindly ignorant, I guess. Whatever fills your too-short-to-care life, I suppose.
