the pornification of the natural beauty of nakedness and its consequences.

there's something so beautiful about innocent nudity, particularly the vulnerability and purity associated with it. it's not sexual, and it was never supposed to be perceived as such.

in the Bible, one of the oldest texts known to mankind, initially Adam and Eve are naked and they feel no shame about it, nor do they feel any desires. it is only when they eat the forbidden fruit that they feel the need to cover themselves and hide.

then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. ...

the ancient Greek and Romans viewed the naked human body as divine and beautiful and would often display nudity in their paintings and sculptures for this exact reason. in fact so many different motifs could be displayed in a simple naked body. the strength and confidence of a proud hero of battles or on the other hand vulnerability and helplessness of a defeated hero. it was a crucial part of art.

so what happens when you take something that was intended to be admired and viewed as completely sexless and you insert your own sexual desires onto it?

you ruin it. you disgrace it. you soil it. you turn something once beautiful into something depraved.

i absolutely adore visual novels, I think that when done correctly the combination of beautiful art, heartfelt story and a moving soundtrack can make for an absolutely breathtaking art piece and experience. but in the genre there exists "visual novels" that main purpose is not to create art but to appeal to the depraved desires of lonely men.

i don't think porn in general is bad, porn has always existed and that's okay. i don't think I would mind either if porn disguised as visual novels was a minor thing either, but it's not minor it's major and that's why I have such an issue with it. i don't necessarily blame the creators either, the consumers who so desperately want something to appeal to their sexual desires make up a very loud percentage of the overall visual novel community and it makes sense that any visual novel creator would feel pressured to add in 18+ content or else risk their visual novel only appealing to a much smaller audience.

i think what's needed more than anything is for the world to take a step back, to remember how nudity was represented throughout history and to think hard if the story about childhood innocence really needs an 18+ scene for you to enjoy it. again there's nothing wrong with indulging in sexual content with your own sexual intent - but there's no reason why all nudity needs to be treated in that way. understand that there's something sacred about pure sexless nudity and there's no need for you to do anything other than admire it.

breaking my hiatus to state that i fucking hate that genuine political/environmental issues are becoming nothing more than a trend to a large portion of the population. i fucking hate performative activism!!!

from recent times, "ai bad" - ai is incredibly harmful to the environment, those suffering from delusions/psychosis, the vulnerable and lonely, isn't real art etc etc. it's something that absolutely should be spoken about and brought to life but the problem lies with the fact that many people speaking out don't actually care about the issue they're talking about! they just saw someone they follow talk about ai and thought they would jump on the bandwagon and earn some social credibility points while they're at it. when another issue is more trendy they'll jump ship!

if you look back to 2020 you'll see just how rampant performative activism was. the fucking black square on your instagram to show you support blm? the corny ass edits of hello kitty saying acab? it's the same shit, just a different issue that was more trendy at the time.

if you wanna talk about the environmental issues about ai then do that but also talk about the 2 billion gallons a day that golf courses use for ... checks notes .. rich people to tap a ball into a hole? talk about ALL the issues related to your cause not just the one that is topical at this current moment.

it's not hard to actually care about something and it's also not hard to do something that doesn't benefit yourself either.

for every one man enjoying yuri for what it is - a wholesome masterpiece there are hundreds that view that exact same media as porn and nothing more.

i saw a video yesterday of a man with his head in his hands because his parents found out he was googling "lesbian anime girls" he of course, was looking up pornography and there were a tonne of comments approving and relating. it's disgusting. time and time again lesbians are just reduced to material that men use to masturbate to.

until men learn how to behave and the existence of lesbians stops being sexualized by them, i just simply cannot trust them. if lesbians weren't incredibly sexualized by men I wouldn't have a problem with men enjoying yuri but they are so i do.

as many of my interests are in male dominated fields, such as being a hikikomori, enjoying moe etc etc ive come up with a list and guidelines for men to abide by when interacting with media.

1. yuri is not for men. no exceptions, i don't care if it's fluff or not. no men allowed in yuri spaces.

2. when interacting with popular children's media that have made their way into men's spaces (ie my little pony) there is a one strike policy. you are allowed to watch and engage but the moment you even imply anything sexual - you're out.

3. if you as a man claim to be a fan of vns and all your favorites are extremely pornographic you are now banned. you may not participate in any vn discussion nor will your opinions on popular titles ever hold merit. too bad so sad.

4. you can like moe, but know that moe as a concept is entirely nonsexual and the second you apply sexual thoughts to moe you are disgusting and should be jailed. get away from moe. and children.

5. men must respect the art. everyone must respect the art, but only men need to be told this as everyone else knows this. vns and anime etc were all beautifully put together by some talented artist and that must always be respected. someone's hard work breathed life into the thing you now love for so dearly. acknowledge it, and respect it.

as long as men abide by these rules they can prove that they are allowed in these spaces. amen i have nothing more to say. unless i think of something later, which I will then add. thankyou.

the word itself "moe" is japanese slang used in connection with anime/manga to describe something precious, something worth protecting - usually with the ideals of femininity and innocence in mind. however it's not limited to that as characters who are tsundere, clumsy or show any kind of vulnerability can also reach moe status.

...to be honest it's an incredibly vague term that moe fans, whilst understanding the term, often struggle to verbalise the meaning. even konata from lucky star struggles to explain it!

so join me as i explore the meaning of moe, divided into two categories - moe by style & moe by genre☆

moe has a telltale art style - in particular if a character has big vacant eyes that look like you could fall into you might have just stumbled onto a moe anime or character!

while any art style could classify as moe, the commonly expected truth is the late 2000s/early 2010s is classic moe. this includes the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, lucky star, chobits & k-on which at least artistically are considered staples of the genre.

this is probably because the popularity of moe was at its highest back in the early 2010s and more popularity = more moe animes. then as the typical anime art style matured the prevalence of moe dwindled to far and few in-between.

moe is regarded as applying to singular characters in an anime rather than the anime itself. however! there is one genre that is associated with moe - cute girls doing cute things (a subgenre of slice of life)

some of these animes, like yuru yuri, strawberry marshmallow & hanamaru kindergarten fit into the stylistic side of moe as well but others such as demon girl next door & comic girls don't. the former tends to be more popular in the moe community but that doesn't dispute that the latter is moe as well.

the reason cgdct works for moe is because the anime in its entirety is what gives you the strong feeling of affection and desire to protect. it's wholesome and feel-good and guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face.

we've almost made it to the end of the post!!! yay! (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠) if you've never really ventured into moe before, i strongly recommend checking out lucky star! it's so moe it's almost a parody of itself and you'll definitely learn a lot (⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠)

however if you're looking for a moe character in particular - check out chobits!! the anime itself is a drama (with a fantastic story i might add) but chii is the sheer definition of moe ♡⁠(⁠Ӧ⁠ｖ⁠Ӧ⁠｡⁠)

ive been gone a while huh, funny how that happens.

i was engaging in escapism and honestly at first? it felt like a hidden cure that i was the first to find - but the deeper i dove the harder it was to reach the surface again. indulging in hobbies is good, but when it causes you to detach to the world around you? it's probably time to take a step back.

i reaaally wanna engage in the world again. being a loser loner loses its appeal quite quickly - who would have thought!!!!

like whispers in the wind, the trees know where i have been. when i am one with the earth - there are no expectations, there is no more "me"; there is only the earth which now i am a part of too.

It's been hard to post to Tumblr recently, I feel like I have assumed the part of a role model to the system community and I cannot live up to my self-made title. Though I can understand that the so called pressure I have on myself is entirely in my mind, that is only the first step of many to come.

Recovery is hard, we all know that. It's not linear and as you climb the ladder, time and time again you will fall. The higher you climb, the higher you can fall and sometimes after so many times of falling you want to just give up and instead live with the fact you'll never recover. But you need to. I don't know personally what awaits at the top of the ladder but I know it is something worth fighting for.

For me? I sit at the bottom of the ladder to recovery, I haven't started climbing again yet but I know that I will. I'm taking my time - perhaps a little bit too much, I feel as though I tried to climb too fast and too hard and I now am exhausted. Yeah, being a system is fucking exhausting. I love my parts, and I do appreciate being a system but God it's so overtly complicated and I wish it was simple. I wish I could find a solution to the problems in my head that were easy - but alas that's not the way things work.

I think sometimes we forget to humanize our opponents and of course the people we look up to. When we are separated by screens and identified only by display names it's only natural to forget the human behind it all. But it's important to remember the human behind the post, we all have our own struggles, our own personal demons and a lot of it probably isn't shared online. I think that's why kindness is so important - you don't know what is going on in an internet stranger's life and a little bit of kindness can go a really long way.

No matter what stage of recovery someone is at, whether they're already at the top, whether they're still climbing or like me, catching their breath and waiting to start climbing again, we all deserve kindness and we should be treated with respect and care. The golden rule? Treat others like you wish to be treated. And be kind to others as you wish others would be kind to you.
