How would your ocs react to hearing Nirvana for the first time?
Okay! I meant to answer this one a few days ago, but I also wanted to sit down and listen to the Unplugged album first since you’d also asked me about that. I FINALLY got the chance to do so tonight after a crazy couple of days, so here we go!
Now, I have A TON of OCs, so I’m only going to answer for the ones I actually have an answer for. Beyond that also, I’ll be talking about a few OCs I haven’t mentioned here before, so if y’all want to know more about them, feel free to ask!
Rose: So if Rose were to hear Nirvana for the first time, I actually think she’d be indifferent. She wouldn’t think they’re bad or anything, they’re just not to her taste. Being from the 30s, her taste in music is more jazz/big band type stuff; and in the modern day her type of music would be pop for sure.
Léon: Léon is the kind of guy who definitely had a rebel rocker teen phase, so he would have loved Nirvana right away. Even as he grows out of that phase (which a lot of it was just to spite his shitty parents anyway), he’d still enjoy their music.
Percie: So, quick tidbit. Percie’s real name is Persephone, which is why I’ll be using she/her pronouns for her. She got the nickname because her younger siblings couldn’t pronounce her full name when they were little and it stuck.
Now, Percie and Léon were childhood friends and eventually become a couple when they’re older, so her first exposure to Nirvana would have been through him. She would have heard him strumming a guitar and singing a Nirvana song, and she would have been interested and so stopped and listened, with Léon eventually sharing his collection of their music with her. And while she’d never become as big of a fan as Léon is, she’d still enjoy them as she gets older.
Ginger: Okay, so some explanation first. I created Ginger to fit into the world of a manga called Sugar Sugar Rune. Ginger is a witch, and in the manga witches are a separate race from humans and most live in the Magic World. Over the course of her story, Ginger ends up coming to the Human World (which is our world).
As such, Ginger is fascinated with just about everything from the Human World. That would include its music. The manga doesn’t go deep into what kind of music the Magic World has, but it’s doubtful that rock music (or even rock music as we know it) exists there. As such she’d be struck by how different it is to anything she’s heard before. And so as I said, she would be fascinated when she hears Nirvana for the first time. Just utterly captivated.
Lyric: Being a bard, Lyric has an appreciation for all kinds of music. So upon hearing Nirvana for the first time, she would be intrigued. She would appreciate their sound and I could even see her trying to figure out how to adapt their music to her instrument of choice to share.
Halo: Now, Halo is over 1,000 years old and has not resided in the mortal realm for almost as long as that. So I honestly think a band like Nirvana would confuse her more than anything. Not to say that she couldn’t appreciate their talent, it’s just not the sort of sound she was used to before she became the caretaker of souls.
Finner: Finner, surprisingly, I think would be the one out of my pony OCs to appreciate them the most. The thing that would strike him upon first listen is the emotions behind Nirvana’s music. The injustices and the hurt and concealed rage. That is something he could connect with, having lost his wife when she was still relatively young. He never really got over that, so the music would strike a chord with him.
And even though you asked about my OCs, I’m also going to give my impressions on the Unplugged album. I enjoyed it a lot. Something about live music just hits differently with me, and I appreciate it all the more. I’d heard the majority of songs on that album from listening to the radio, but I connected with the live versions more. I’d definitely listen to it again.
As always, thanks for the ask! I had a ton of fun answering this one.
