“This didn’t have to happen, but it’s beautiful.”
Hate to do this, but if anyone can help
TL: DR - Due to a lot of financial strain this year and moving before we planned to with little notice, my cats and my family don't have money for groceries for the next few months. We just need to make it to January and we've been trying hard, eating as cheap as possible, not going out, no extra services, etc. Heck, I only have FFXIV because a friend was nice enough to help.
But now, we're out of money and next paycheck once we cover rent and bills, we'll have less than $30. And unfortunately, we need to eat.
So if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Anything. Thank you. <3

Also! I hope you all like the start of the new season! Spring here, and I plan to enjoy it!
It's a shame I can't romance myself.

AN: This is my first post both on Tumblr and of any of my writing. Sorry if it's bad lol
I just wanted to write and thought why not post it. Warning for my writing style, I hate first person. So anything I write will either be second or third. Third most of the time. Sorry if it gets confusing cause I didn't use y/n and just referred to the reader as him. I'll fix it if a lot of people don't like it.
Anyway, story!
Vax'ildan x Reader but it's not a big part.
Male reader cause yes.
Reader is a bard and fire Genasi. (Reader is based off my dnd character sorry)
A Song For You
~
It was one of the many town stops on through their journey and the group was currently shopping around the market. He didn’t like spending his money unless need be, and he got all his supplies from their last stop, so he just walked around with his friends. While waiting for them to finish buying, he was messing with the strings on his lute. He was strumming a few chords when a small kid tugged on his pant leg. Glancing down, it seemed to be a young halfling. They tilted their head and looked away, seeming nervous.
He chuckled and crouched down to the kid's height. He said hello and asked for the kids name. Still nervous, they stuttered out their name. He grinned, complimented their name and gave his along with it. The kid smiled, seemingly warming up to him. They fidgeted for a moment before motioning him closer. He leans in and the kid whispers in his ear. They wanted a song. He smirked and stood up, pulling up his lute and tuning it. He asked if the kid had any requests, but they said no. He tapped his chin in thought before an idea came to mind. He fiddled with his strings before nodding.
(Insert - Kingdom Dance from Tangled)
He began quietly strumming, humming along. The kid stared in awe. He used his magic to bring out his other instruments; a bird pipe along with a hand drum. They glowed a soft orange, being lifted from his backpack and into the air beside him. The song held a steady beat, he couldn't help but step along with it. The kid took his lead and also began slowly stepping along with the song.
The market wasn’t packed but there were certainly quite a few people. Most ignored the sudden music, while others set the pair a glance. Maybe four actually stopped what they were doing and fully watched them dance.
The child twirled as the song softened into bird pipes. The air seemed to swirl around her, and maybe it did with some help. A slick slide of hand was unnoticed by them. The music was sweet and methodic. Each note held grace, each step they took seemed as light as the sting plucking. Slowly, more and more people began stopping and watching the two, a small crowd beginning to form. Noticing this, he increased both the volume and speed. The slow, almost waltz turning into a march of some kind.
The bright hair on his head swiftly turned into curling, lively flames. Each step he took, an orange glow dusted off his boots. But it wasn’t just him. The young halfling promptly matched his speed. Their moves become more energetic and free. Giggles came from the crowd and more kids came rushing forward. They too began dancing with the pair. People around were slowly being pulled in and even clapping.
His sharp ears picked up more music. Music that wasn’t his. Turning around, others began playing their instruments or making music with everyday items. People began circling and forming chains of dances. Everyone took turns, had their own dances, or just enjoyed watching. He openly laughed and used a quick spell to play his lute as he joined the dances.
The commotion brought the group's attention. None of them realized he started it all. Percy and Vex worried the guards around would see this as a problem but realized even they were joining in on the dancing. Scanlan quickly pulled out his lute and joined in on the playing. He was busy trying to woo someone, he didn’t notice the floating musical instruments in the air. Grog and Pike also joined quickly, partaking in the dancing though a bit messily. Keyleth stood back with Vex and Percy, deciding to watch the dancing. She did join in the clapping with the others. Vax smirked, seeing this as an opportunity to possibly snag a few gold and maybe other things.
However, everyone was distracted when fire shot into the air. A very familiar fire. Looking through the crowd, the others and basically everyone watched in awe as he danced around with fire circling his being. The fire carefully danced between everyone and made swirls in the air above them. Vax stared starstruck. The way the fire danced around him, seeming more like glowing magic than something that could burn you.
With one last show of beautiful fire and wonderful music, everyone was quiet for a moment before erupting into cheers and clapping. Compliments were showered in all directions. He bowed and swiftly picked up and put away his instruments. Looking around, he spotted the young halfling who started this all and complimented them on their dancing skill and thanked them for requesting a song. They giggled and jumped into his arms, squeezing him and whispering thanks in his ear. They let go and ran off into the crowd of dispersing people.
While dancing was a lot, he was now full of energy. So when Scanlan jumped onto him and began both complementing and berating him for not asking him to join in, he thankfully didn’t fall over. His face grew warmer than normal as the others complimented him as well. And while he didn’t have too high a perception, he did notice the blush dusting the ears of a certain rogue half-elf. Deciding not to tease him today, he didn’t bring it up and instead just followed the group as they finished their shopping. He did however send a silent message while the others were distracted.
Maybe next time, I’ll share a dance with you?
(Maybe more parts idk?! Please let me know if you like it or something I should work on! Thanks for reading!)
P.S. idk if I'll post soon on my own so if you like it I'll try doing more I guess lol
