Largest Spider Web Found
In Madagascar, the largest spider web was found, made by a Darwin bark spider.
Darwin bark spider is a type of orb spider, can can weave webs that span rivers and lakes. They can catch up to 30 insects at a time with a web. One web has reached 82 feet in length, which makes it the worlds largest web spinner.
University of Puerto Rico's lead author the research says that the web is twice as strong as the strongest silk and ten times tougher than the material to make bullet proof vests.
These giant webs are generally made by female spiders, mostly males devote themselves to mating. These types of web are generally made within multiple days. Scientists have documented large spider webs before where instead of being created by individual spiders, it is created by groups of colonies of spiders.
