hi! I hope you're having a good day. I just wanted to ask, if it's okay, why you're so into bottom!bucky? bc like.... I don't think it should matter? But anyway. Thanks!

As for why I am so into Bottom!Bucky? There are a lot of reasons but it’s late so I’ll just give you the condensed answer. I have a history of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse ranging from age 6 to this year (age 29) and as a victim of prolonged abuse I feel like I understand a lot where Bucky would be coming from. This is just one of the many reasons he’s my relatable character. 

I see people sometimes say they feel Bucky needs to top because of his trauma and “needing control and to have the power”. I don’t agree with that (although to each their own) I think something that’s important to Bucky’s recovery is learning to trust others again and learning to be ok with being vulnerable. I like the idea of Bucky opening up his body and heart to Steve after everything he’s been through. I like the idea that he gets to be in a place where he trusts Steve enough to be vulnerable with him and I like the idea of Steve taking care of Bucky (because it’s really high time someone took care of that boy ya know?) and wanting to make him happy. I think bottoming is a huge sign of trust on Bucky’s part and I really dislike that whole needing to top argument because imo it’s skirting around his trauma cuz he’s not learning to trust or be vulnerable and assumes that being a bottom cant be a position of power. Which it totally would be for him because he’s in control of his own vulnerability. 

So really my love of it comes to down to how I relate to him as a character and understanding how important it is to be able to find someone you can trust enough to be vulnerable with after a long history of abuse. I’ve also noticed that a lot of people who love Bottom!Bucky are also abuse victims and they feel similarly. 

Btw I see a lot of B!B lovers get really shitty and rude asks (and it’s always from cis women??) about why they like it so much and it’s usually rife with accusations about fetishization, which every time I see that I want to roll my eyes because those people clearly dont understand what fetishization is and are just tossing the word around cuz they’re assholes who are just trying to shame people for having a preference, so I wanted to say thank you for being nice in your ask. It’s much appreciated.
