Barrow Wight by Angus McBride
"Cold be hand and heart and bone, and cold be sleep under stone: never more to wake on stony bed, never, till the Sun fails and the Moon is dead. In the black wind the stars shall die, and still on gold here let them lie, till the dark lord lifts up his hand over dead sea and withered land. "

WHO IS SOGGIER AND/OR MORE PATHETIC
Barrow-wight
Ecthelion
Barrow-wight (art by John Howe): I’ve been spelling their name wrong and nobody corrected me… anyway they’re like evil spirits or something. Possibly Tom Bombadil’s pesky neighbors. Had a nice chat with the Witch-king. Possibly soggy
Ecthelion (art by Anna Lee): died via drowning so definitely soggy. The Maglor of Gondolin basically. Plays flute extremely good so maybe he’s good at fingering… Killed Gothmog. Has some kind of dumb unicorn helmet that he used to impale Gothmog. Apparently he died Elden Ring style (sank immediately in the fountain because armor so heavy)
“Fog on the South Downs”
Illustration for chapter 3 of my Payneland fic The Case of the Stolen Barrow. The chapter is up now on AO3.
In it (amid plenty of Tolkien references), Edwin gets to be the brawn, Charles the brains, and Crystal earns the honorary title of ‘hag’.
Tomorrow!
My friends and I put so much work into making this show happen. I’m so stoked / stressed that it’s almost time. Hard to believe it’s actually transpiring tomorrow.

I did a lot of research on smoke for this one. After trying various different methods, I ended up creating my own smoke-brush :)

All that smoke makes it really easy to loose the silhouette of the shapes I was working with. A lot of constant refining was necessary to keep it all clear :)
