a dream come true - part 4
Pairing: baseball player! adachi yuto x reader
Summary: “You’re my dream come true.”
While the team piles into the bus, being loud as ever, I stand outside waiting. I keep count, making sure everyone is here and didn’t oversleep. Granted it’s early, but that’s no excuse to be skipping. I tap my foot, waiting for some of the freshmen slackers to arrive.
When I see them bolting for the bus, I glare at them and they run even faster. They apologize profusely before climbing into the bus. I follow after and start roll call. Not finding the ace, I frown. I look up from my clipboard and search through the bus once more.
Everyone shrugs, talking amongst themselves to see if they know anything. Nobody did. I sigh, running a hand through my hair. The bus driver behind me chuckles, not minding the fact that the ace is late. I check my phone for the time, thankful we have enough time to get there.
As I’m about to get off and go looking for him, I find Yuto sprinting towards us. Everyone looks out the window, witnessing this sight. As soon as he steps into the bus, I tell the bus driver to start driving. He nods and starts it up, riling everyone up.
I take a seat near the front with Yuto sitting down beside me. I sigh and cross my arms. Yuto pants, trying to catch his breath and I hand him a water bottle. He thanks me.
“It’s fine, you weren’t that late anyway. Though, you’re never late, so what held you up this time?”
“I couldn’t find my lucky pair of socks.”
“Yuto, how many times have I told-”
“They are lucky, Y/N. That’s why I need them every game.”
I pat his shoulder and nod. “I know.”
“They weren’t in their usual place, Y/N,” He stresses and I hook my arms around his right arm. I lean my cheek against his shoulder and he intertwines our fingers together.
“I’m sure they’ll appear soon. Don’t stress, you’ll do great today,” I try to motivate him and switch from my cheek to my chin on his shoulder. He looks down at me before turning back up front, smiling and shaking his head.
“There are kids on the bus, don’t corrupt their innocent minds.”
“We probably know more about that stuff than you do, Yoosung,” One of the teammates pipes up.
The rest of the bus ride goes smoothly, not much of yelling from Yoosung. Everyone was trying to prepare themselves for the game while I checked over some things. I allow everyone to get off first before following after them. I leave them in the locker room to do their pregame rituals while I stand in the dugout.
The players step out one by one after finishing what they need to do. I high five them all as they pass. Yuto is one of the later players and I can tell he’s growing more nervous with every passing second. I send him a thumbs up and a smile in an attempt to cheer him up. He nods.
I’m in the middle of prepping things up when I can see from the corner of my eye, Yuto jumping up and down. I chuckle as he’s try to shake off his nerves. I shake my head and focus once more on my task. Though, as soon as I do, I feel someone grab onto my hand. I turn from one of the players to the person who’s doing it.
“Yuto, what’re you doing?”
He blushes. “Nothing. What’re you doing?”
I look at him and raise an eyebrow. “Uh, I’m organizing things.”
“Yeah,” I drag it out, giving him a suspicious look. “Yuto, why’re you holding my hand?”
“What’re you talking about? I’m not doing that?”
I raise up our connected hands. “So what’s this then?”
He shrugs, still pretending.
I continue my duty as manager while still having the ace hold my hand. Even when I go to raise it to point at something, his hand follows and never seems to let go. When I finish, I turn to him again.
“Yuto, you don’t need those lucky socks. You’ll do fine without them.”
“But what if I can’t? What if I let everyone on the team down? Or maybe even disappoint them?”
“Stop right there, Adachi. Do not finish your rant. You will never ever let down the team, understand? You’re needed and wanted on this team. Your team is your family, they will never ever be disappointed by you. They just want you to try your best, got it?”
“I’m so lucky to have you.”
I chuckle and wave my hand. “Whatever.”
“Thanks, Y/N.” Yuto gives me a big smile and I nod. He kisses my forehead and runs off to prepare while I’m left alone. I glance over at him while the countdown to the game begins and it makes my heart feel whole when I see him joke around with his teammates.
The crowd cheers as the players run onto the field. I had given them all data on the players prior to the game. They know what to expect, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed in hopes we win.
I watch nervously as Yuto pitches the first ball, making it a strike. I smirk and mark it down.
The crowd cheers and yells as the second pitch is about to happen. Yuto lets out a breath before throwing it. The batter hits it, but only as far as first base. He looks nervously at me and I cup my hands around my mouth.
“Manager,” The players in the dugout gasp, surprised. I turn to them and glare, immediately silencing themselves.
The rest of the game is nerve wrecking as the two teams stay neck and neck with the scores. Yuto and the other team’s ace glare at each other when the other comes from the mound. Though, the other just smirks at him when Yuto’s not looking. Weirdo.
The team and I stand as the final pitch is about to be thrown. The other team had failed to get a point when it was their turn, so now it’s up to Yuto to gain the needed point otherwise we go into overtime. We all hold our breath as he prepares for it.
“Come on, Yuto. You can do this, just relax,” I whisper even though he can’t hear me from here.
There’s definitely a lot of pressure for him as this pitch determines whether or not we can proceed towards finals. As he pitches the first ball, the crowd is completely silent. The batter misses and it counts as a strike.
“Two more, Adachi. Two more.”
Another pitch and it’s another strike. The players shout out cheers before I scold them to quiet down. I’m pretty sure everyone is holding their breath as the third pitch is thrown.
As it nears the batter, he swings and the ball curves. It’s a strike.
“HE DID IT,” The players in the dugout shout, looking at each other with wide eyes. The crowd cheer and hug each other, making the stadium go wild.
“ADACHI YUTO, YOU JUST DID THAT,” I cry, covering my mouth with my hands. I watch as Yoosung runs to Yuto and tackles him into a hug. The other players join in and help him up. I have a big grin on my face and tears in my eyes as they carry him over. They let him down to allow him to come to me. I wrap my arms tightly around him and he does the same to me. “You did it, you won.”
He grins, kissing my temple. “All because of you.”
“I realized that when the umpire yelled strike, I didn’t win because I had my socks. It was actually because of you.”
“Shut up, I’m already emotional as is. Don’t make me cry anymore.”
“It’s true. All because you’re my good luck charm, Y/N.”
