MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: Basic Cable Preachers "Tomorrow's Gone"
Basic Cable Preachers released a music video for their newest single "Tomorrow's Gone." Combining modern-psych rock with mesmerizing pop hooks, the band sound like a power group made up of The 1975 and Tame Impala.
Their latest music video features swirly visuals and other-worldly performances that take listeners through a powerful mind trip.
Vocalist Patrick Schlafer has a distinct, tenor voice that allows him to reach high notes and stand out among other singers in this genre. Schlafer has that same ringing quality shared by Maroon 5 vocalist Adam Levine, which makes for a truly memorable song.
With mirrored white space silhouettes gracing the screen and choreographed dancers playing over a projector of swirling colors, the visuals capture the calming nature of the song, perfectly. Although engaging, the video is repetitive and a little overwhelming. This could easily be fixed, though, with a few added scenes.
One thing is true, though, and it is that Basic Cable Preachers are the psych rock group we’ve been waiting for, and they’re here to stay.
Check out this music video for the title track of local band Deadbeats and Barkers new album “Nothing New.” They’ll be playing an album release show at the V Club on Saturday, May 30th with Ona and Basic Cable Preachers.
