What is Banishing
Banishing is an action that a practitioner takes in order to remove hostile, undesired, or unwelcome spiritual entities and/or energies. Energies such as ambient energy, spellwork, and/or emotional interference. This action is commonly done sympathetically, meaning that it uses physical tools and objects within a space that hold specific associations or correspondences. These sympathetic methods involve brandishing a tool, commonly a smoking herb bundle, vaporizing resins, or a holy book/symbol. It is also relatively common for the voice to be the tool of choice. This is typically done through prayer or demands.
When & Why to Banish
While not every practitioner may come upon a situation in which banishing is necessary it is still wise to have at least a rudimentary understanding on how to do so. When first getting into spirit work, it is crucial to know how to banish in case of a misstep. Biding may also be a good skill to have in that situation as well. For some practitioners it can be difficult to tell when banishing is necessary or just a good idea. For them, I’d recommend doing so whenever your gut instinct advises you to. Oftentimes when your gut tells you to and when you actually should overlap quite a bit. For others, Banishing should be done when:
The ambient energy in a space feels stagnant, corrupted, or emotionally charged
A unwelcome spirit has entered your space
This is best done via the energetic sense, especially Pioso.
A spirit that has entered the space when uninvited, or whe the wrong spirit is invited.
A spell has been cast that is undesired or harmful
A spell that was cast that has unintended side-effects.
A spell that has been placed on you or an object by someone else without your consent.
A curse that has been placed on you or an object.
Types of Banishing
Spatial Banishing - This article
Energetic: This is the most effective and is best done as a preliminary measure before any sympathetic or vocal methods.
Banishing utilizing energetic constructs of a given size that encapsulate the target.
Sympathetic: Best done to reinforce an energetic or vocal banishing.
Hanging or placing protective items such as talisman, horseshoes, dried herbs, and crystals in the space.
Burning herbs, woods, or resins in the space.
Placing iron objects, brooms, etc above thresholds in the space.
Lining the bases of thresholds with salt, brick dust, or certain stone dusts.
Cleaning the space physically.
Spells
The use of spell circles and sigils
Vocal: Best done either during or right after an energetic banishing.
Saying a prayer from a holy book.
Praying to a specific deity for assistance.
Commanding an unwanted entity to leave with resolve and confidence.
Incantations
Energetic Banishing - This article
Energetic: Banishing by either neutralizing or enveloping an energetic phenomenon before removing it from the space via a variety of methods.
Creating a field of control around an energetic phenomenon and consciously removing it.
Finding the opposite energetic frequency of an energetic phenomenon and projecting it towards the target to neutralize it.
Creating an astral weapon with specific properties to destroy an entity. (Destroy meaning to break down that entity’s consciousness and/or body.)
Creating a thoughtform to combat the energetic phenomenon.
Other Types Not Covered in This Article:
Dimensional Banishing - Intermediate
Localized Banishing - Intermediate.

Non-Localized Banishing - Advanced
When Each Type of Banishing is appropriate
Spatial Binding
When an energetic phenomenon seems to be lingering in a given space.
When someone within your space is projecting difficult, harmful, dampening emotions into a space.
When something from outside the space follows you into your space.
Energetic Binding
Literally whenever banishing is done.
Banishing Non-Entities
When banishing something that isn’t a spiritual entity, it is best to have a pretty good conceptualization of what it is. If it is a curse, it would be wise to determine the target and purpose of the curse before attempting to banish it. When banishing an emotion or other ambient energy, it is best to work from the perimeter of the space inwards towards the source. Finding the source is easiest to do via energetic awareness. Sometimes the source may appear to be a person, when it is actually something on their person or something that they left in the space. Emotional interferences can linger within a physical space within the walls, floors, ceilings, as well as any of the objects in the room. It is important to be thorough, lest you may risk its return.
Hi! I’ve been wanting to start witchcraft for quite a while and I don’t know where to start—tips?
Read as much as you possibly can, from as many different sources as you are able to! Find one part of witchcraft that you are super into, such as tarot or crystals, and just start researching!
The best place to start from the very beginning would be basic energy work. Warding and grounding yourself is essential.
To get a feel for what energy feels like in your body, try a form of meditation that works for you, and place your palms close together. Feel the energy flow through your arms, creating a ball of energy in your palms.
Pay attention to your body sensations, what the energy feels like, what color it is, what it feels like in your hands, etc!
Practice this, then put that energy into your intention! And boom, spellwork!
Always research and always do what feels best for you! There is no wrong way to make magic, as long as you aren't appropriating cultural traditions.
Like most tools in witchcraft, energetic constructs are tools used to channel, anchor, program, and/or manipulate energy. Constructs can range from simple forms such as spheres or platonic solids to complex forms like a replication of a house or object. The applications of energetic constructs are nearly limitless. Building a construct can be the focal point of a spell or a single component.
What is an energetic construct
Energetic constructs are projections of form in any dimension of space and/or time. The energies used in constructing them are programmed before, during, or after their creation. When a construct is made, its form can either act as conduit or node to the target, or represent the space a spell will occupy. It can be used to modify aspects of the target or space, or as a method of guiding a spell to its desired destination. Constructs can also be used to create wards, thoughtforms, and/or anchors for spells.
Foundations of energetic constructs
All constructs follow the Axioms of Energy Work. There are limitations to what they can and can’t affect. At their core, they are minute manipulations of quanta of information that acts as building blocks for our tangible reality. These manipulations can be programmed and modified to possess their own properties, or designed to influence the properties of the energies it interacts with. Their form can be as important as their programming. If one was to create a ward for their home, it would be more effective to create a perfect energetic replication of the house rather than a simple toroid projection. This can also be aided by symbols/sigils for protection and magically insulative materials such as salt or brick dust. These aids should be considered when a structure is being built, so that they do not interact in unforeseen ways.
Energetic Half-Life
Without anchoring a construct, it will slowly dissipate into the surrounding environment in order to restore equilibrium with the environment. A construct must be tethered to something that is conductive to thermal, electric, or combustion energy; this is to say, that thoroughly binding a construct to a conductive metal such as copper (through thermal or electric conductivity); a piezoelectric crystal such as quartz; or an organism such as a plant that produces energy via a redox reaction. The energy required to sustain a construct is so minute that a piezoelectric crystal is more than sufficient at powering it, even under normal atmospheric pressure.
Anchoring
When anchoring a construct it is important that conduits to it are properly distributed to points of most stress. This can be conceptualized as a hydrodynamic system, in which pressures interact in complex ways. The goal here is to have equal, or desired, distribution of energy throughout the form. By linking energetic conduits, like those within the subtle body, from the anchor to these points of highest stress, the energy produced or conducted to the construct can be distributed as needed.
Spatial Form
When creating a construct that occupies space, it is important to take what ambient energies exist in that space into consideration. If it overlays within physical objects, how will their ambient energies interact with the construct? How can their effects on the construct be mitigated? How can the energies be incorporated into the construct's purpose, if at all? It is rare for an object’s energy to be metastable or inert. While the properties of ambient energies may not affect the construct, they may interact with the anchor.
Temporal Form
When creating a construct that exists through a period of time, it is vitally important that the half-life of the energy is taken into account when choosing an anchor. If an anchor isn’t effective at containing or generating energy, the construct will need to be regularly charged. If the anchor doesn’t generate its own energy, you’ll need to consider how much energy is charged into it in order to sustain the construct for as long as you want it to. If a construct is designed to exist solely through time and not within space, visualization will very likely not be of any assistance. The anchor used to sustain it will need to be static and exist within the same relative frame of reference. This means that if an anchor is used to cast retroactive magic, a form of energetic projection, the anchor for the construct will have to had existed in the same relative location throughout the period of the spells focus in order to be most effective.
Correspondence
Constructs can be used as a correspondence, or node, for a working rather than the working itself so long as it contains the same energetic properties and frequencies as the object, person, location, or idea. However, if a construct is used as a taglock, it is very important to consider the principle of least effort. As the spell may satisfy its intention merely by attaching to the construct.
Projection
Visualization, or imagining, a construct will not give it form or existence. Visualization should merely be used as a mould or blueprint for the construct and nothing more. Projecting a construct can happen a few ways depending on ability and approach. Visualizing and then propagating the construct all at once is possible but can be difficult without practice. Gradually using your energetic body and senses to form each individual aspect of the design is a lot easier for some individuals. Visualization is not required for this process, because energetic senses can be used to feel the form, rather than creating a mental image. It can be helpful to draw a physical blueprint of the construct first. It is also possible to cause a mitosis-like action within your subtle body fields to project a construct. (Size allowing). The density, frequency, and precision are very important to consider when planning a construct as these qualities will have a large impact on the final product.
Multi-Dimensionality
Constructs can be made in more than one dimension of space. This is to mean any number of axises of space that are all separated by 90°. Again, doing this kind of projection can render visualization useless. The benefit of casting into higher spatial dimensions is the level of interaction with other spellwork. In higher dimensions of space, spells cast within two or three dimensions become very easy to avoid as they are like shadows.

Conceptualization Vs. Visualization*
Visualization & The Alt-Right Pipeline
Introduction
Once I publicly stated that energy work is the most utilitarian mode of magic, as it doesn’t require spoons, many in our community took it upon themselves to become combative without critical thought. I’ve seen several narratives going around about this lately, all of which miss the point entirely. Energy work is not physical movement, physical effort, or visualization.
Conscious Vs. Unconscious Energy Work
Regardless of practice, ability, culture, model, or experience energy work happens during every single type of magical or mystical working. With any release, absorption, movement, or exchange of information there is a transfer of energy. Prayers, spiritual communion, spells, meditation, etc all involve energy work. If energy work is not done consciously, then it is done subconsciously. When this occurs, the energy movement and programming becomes reactive rather than proactive. When the energy work is reactive, the programming and the strength of the energy work is diminished significantly, can can easily be influenced by unrelated forces such as the current emotional state, latent emotions, recent events, trauma, self-esteem, etc. These interactions can skew the results of magical and mystical actions heavily. While such influences are within acceptable margins, like with intimate connections to spiritual entities and the divine, they can also cause spell work to have unforeseen consequences or prevent it from working entirely. The subconscious application of energy work also has repercussions on the subtle body. While ranging in severity, it can be a non-permanent minor fluctuation, to a triggering of a trauma response.
Spoons & Visualization
It is widely considered that visualization and energy work are one in the same, when that couldn’t be further than the truth. Visualization is literally using one’s imagination; which is not something that everyone is able to do. There is a massive spectrum of ability when it comes to visualization. For some, like those with hyperphantasia, intense realist visualization is second nature. For others, like those with aphantasia, it is impossible to visualize anything at all. If visualization is to be used at all, it should be considered a tool. It can be used in order to create a mental image for a plan, or for psychologically reinforcing energy work that is being done. It can also be used in order to promote, maintain, or enter into headspace. As well as used to aid in focus. Regardless, visualization is merely a tool and nothing else. For many people, visualization takes a LOT of spoons. Whether it be ADHD, aphantasia, mental disability, or brain injury trying to mentally picture something can come at a heavy cost in terms of personal daily energy reserves (Spoons). If trying to use visualization as if it were energy work were the cornerstone of someone’s magical practice, they would be expending significantly more spoons than necessary in order to subconsciously do energy work.
Learning Curve
Energy work can be difficult to learn, especially in the beginning. It is made even more difficult due to the contemporary culture around it as well as the complete lack of informational resources. Conceptualizing what energy work is is perhaps the most difficult step to take, especially when it comes to the energetic senses. It does take spoons in order to learn energy work. Until it has a solid foundation, it can be very strenuous to practice or conceptualize. Practice becomes absorption through trial and error. While remaining as objective as possible in your pursuit can also be draining, it is also necessary. Unless one is privileged enough to have energy work come to them second nature, it can take years to learn. However, once it is learned, performing energy work requires no spoons, no mental image, no physical effort or movement. It is a practice that is optimal for people who are disabled, as well as being the most efficient and effective applicational model for magic.
Action Vs. Practice Vs. Conceptualization
Like with all things, doing energy work requires setting aside time and focus to perform. Preparing for energy work can take up spoons for a lot of people. Depending on the intensity of the energy work, focus can also require spoons for some. Taking any kind of action be it physical or energetic, requires spoons. As stated above, conceptualizing energy work also requires spoons in the beginning. With that being said, the practice itself requires as much or less spoons as thinking a thought, depending on the level of attention. This is because there is no visualization, physical movement, or emotional regulation required. Energy work can be done alongside these things, all of which can aid in its practice. However, each additional layer on top of energy work adds its own cost. Energywork can be done while performing other tasks, such as writing, working, driving, etc; albeit, not without the additional spoon requirements. As it stands within the popular understanding of magic, “energy work” can be very spoon intensive, but if practiced properly and efficiently the cost of spoons is lowered to a nearly negligible amount. When energy work is not performed front the wellsource, but rather from the energy from within other parts of the subtle body, energy work can be very draining and spoon-heavy. If you feel like your energy is running out during energy work, I recommended revisiting the basics and figuring out how to draw directly from the wellsource.
The Green Flame: Grounding, Centring, and Shielding
You know those days when you wake up in a decent mood, then get to work or scroll through your phone for five minutes and suddenly you’re anxious, grumpy, overstimulated, or ready to cry over a mildly burnt piece of toast? Yeah — chances are, your energy’s wide open and you’ve picked up a few too many outside vibes.
Enter the holy trinity of magical self-care: grounding, centring, and shielding.…
SOURCE, The Pagan Library.com Basic Energy Work and Cultivation AUTHOR, runewulf Moderator Basic Energy Work and Cultivation Thu Oct 06, 2005 6:10 pm Ok, next up.. I promised several people to put up some info on energy exercises/energy manipulation. This post will delve into that using several techniques. To start off with, what is energy? Energy is a form of power and it's all around us and inside of us. There are countless sources of energy. Whether you call it magick, aural power, mana, prana, chi, ki, kundalini, etc. it's energy. While there are many forms of energy, the energy of life, which I just gave several names to, is something that with practice and some effort on your part, you can put to use for yourself in 'Magick', 'healing', etc. Start this work with the breath meditation. Now that we've gotten past the meditation and are in a more "magickal" state of consciousness, we're going to work on pushing and pulling our own energies. Energy Circulation Place your hands a few inches apart and push your energy down your right arm and out from your right hand to your left mentally. Keep your body relaxed, but with each breath, 'push' with your mind, telling your energy to move down your arm and out of your right hand. Given a few minutes or less, your left hand will start to feel the energy, it may be hot, cold, pressure, tingling, static-like, etc). Now that you feel your energy pushing from your right hand with each exhale, feel that energy pulling into your left hand with each inhale. You will feel the energy coursing back up your arm and into your body. Keep doing this until you feel your energy flowing smoothly from your right side out of your hand and being pulled back into your left hand and into your body. With practice, you'll likely find that you sense the energy coursing through your body in a long path as well as through your arms and hands. note: if you're left handed, chances are you'll find it easier to push out of the left hand and draw into the right. It never hurts though to work both sides, pushing from both right and left as well as drawing from both. That is a basic exercise in energy circulation. Taking this a step farther you can gradually spread your hands further and further apart. This brings greater control and circulation. Just make sure you don't move your hands so far apart that you can't feel the energy flowing any more. Energy Projection/Shaping Another basic but important exercise is projecting energy and shaping it. The easiest way to do this is to hold your hands about 6 to 12 inches apart and 'push' the energy from your right hand towards your left, but this time, don't pull the energy in, let it flow between your hands, building up. It sometimes helps to push your hands closer together and then back out, using soft "molding" motions to form a sphere shape. Keep pushing and building the energy until you feel like you can hold any more between your hands, then push just a little more. You should feel almost like you're holding a solid ball between your hands. Congratulations, you're holding a ball of energy in your hands. This energy can be put to any kind of use you need it for, given the right intent and "programming". For now though, since you're not actually setting out to do spell work, but just an energy exercise, you'll want to draw that energy back into yourself. You can do this like in the circulation exercise by drawing it into your left hand. Some people actually bring it to their mouths and 'eat' or 'drink' it. A lot of others press it into their lower abodomen and 'will' it 'home' and feel it being reabsorbed. When you get this exercise down, experiment with other shapes and sizes. Nothing says you can't make a 'beachball' of energy, or a cube or pyramid. Pore Breathing/Energy Gathering This is an exercise in drawing energy into yourself. This is really an extension of the meditation itself and is very simple. With each breath in, feel energy being drawn into your body through your skin, filling you with new energy with every breath. Keep feeling this as your energy gathers and builds until you feel like you can hold no more. A variation on this is to visualize/feel your arms spreading like huge tree branches and drawing energy into you from the air, moon, sun, stars, etc with each breath. A second variation is to see/feel you body pushing roots deep into the earth and drawing energy into yourself with each breath from the stength of the earth. When you're done with any working, it's always best to 'push' any excess energy you feel yourself holding down into the earth, letting it drain away. Holding extra energy that you're not using can cause some undesirable side effects. Energy Battery Ok, the last on for this post is the energy battery. This is a simple exercise that allows you to literally make batteries of energy you can draw on or use in spell work and healing later. You'll need a stone or some other object to use as the battery. You can start this off with the pore breathing or one of it's alternatives if you wish, or you can just use your personal energy. Now, take your battery object in your hands and begin to 'push' your energy out, like in the shaping exercise. This time though, instead of building a sphere, push the energies into the object itself. Keep pushing the energies in until the object feels like it can't hold any more or until you start feeling drained. If you're feeling tired, it's definitely time to stop. When the battery is 'charged', visualize or feel yourself binding the energy to the battery, so it can't disipate. The idea of a knot works well. A rope or cord actually makes a good battery, with each knot being it's own 'cell' that can be untied when the energy is needed. Ok, I'm going to close here. These are good, basic energy exercises that can be used to both develope and improve your abilities to work with energy. They are also a good foundation for active magick. Once you hold energy or while building it, you can program it and send it off to do it's job. So, these really are the 'building blocks', so to speak. I hope this helps some of you and clairifies a few points for a few others. Wassail, RuneWulf Posted by, phynxrizng
