They had The Acid on Shameless
I mean, they played “Basic Instict” in that amazing Gallavich scene.
I was screaming on the inside so much. THEY HAD THE ACID ON SHAMELESS. THE FUCKING ACID
Portrait of Bill. The painting is titled Being Sharon. The Sharon in question is Sharon Stone. He is dressed as the character she played in Basic Instinct. Catherine Trammel, in clothes similar to the ones she wore in that famous scene, the interview at the police station.
That scene is deceptive. It is on the surface, typically exploitative. A beautiful woman is scantily clad, placed in a spotlight in front of a group of fully dressed men in a position of authority, yet she is playing with them and she uses her sexuality to full effect to unnerve them.
Who really has the upper hand?
I found this image particularly appealing and liked the idea of turning it on it's head by using a man as the subject and presenting him in the portrait using a direct gaze to the viewer. You are invited to admire him, but you are also confronted with his gaze at you.
What surprised me with the painting is despite the original inspiration for the set up coming from a film clip, the results appear like a classical portrait set up.
