Basic Meditation
In 3 steps
A common misconception about meditation is that you have to stop thinking while you do it. This, is nonsense. Perhaps you'll be able to do that once you get good at meditation, but even then, thoughts will still come to you, so don't fret about that.
First step, get comfortable.
This pose is not necessary. For some people, it can be very uncomfortable, even painful to force your body into this pose. If you can't or just don't want to, don't.
Sit on the floor, a cushion, the couch, your bed, just don't lie down. The purpose of this is to, 'still your mind.' If you, 'still your body,' too, there's a good chance you're gonna fall asleep. You can lean back against something soft, so long as you're upright.
Second step, breathe.
You want slow, calm breaths. You can use exercises like inhale through nose, exhale through mouth if you want. Me personally, I'm happy to breathe in and out through my nose. I'll switch it up as I see fit. For step two, keep step one in mind. Get comfortable.
Third step, go with the flow
Here comes the big, scary step. Not thinking. Joke. For most, it's impossible to stop thinking for any real period of time.
The secret to meditation is to accept the thoughts. Yup! You heard me right! Accept those thoughts, but also, let them go. You are trying to still your mind, so, thoughts will come to you, but the key is to see it, accept it, release it.
That's it. That's really all there is to basic Meditation. Sounds a little too easy, eh? More than likely, you've seen the image of the Buddhist monks who have reached enlightenment-
and thought, "Crap! They're pretty much, Buddha! I can't do that!" Well guess what, they started out doing the very basics too, so you can do it as well. I believe in you.
You've probably seen that typical shot of a water droplet dropping into a still pond.
It's supposed to be representative of thoughts disrupting a still mind, but ya know what? That's crap! That water isn't still! Y'know what you get when you have still water? Stagnant water. Scummy water.
So, accept the flow, but don't focus on it. Let it flow past.
Have a Blessed Day 😇🙏
