As someone who doesn’t get to travel really often, it was truly a memorable treat to get to see Basic Tape in their hometown of Paris when they opened for Odesza at Le Trianon a few years ago. It’s something I’ll never forget, and the duo put on quiet a show that could’ve been the headline set in itself that night. That said, let’s get a sumptuous dose of the French duo’s dance pop and electropop via their new single Melody. It’ll surely brighten up your evening with its mellifluous keys and vivacious skipping beats, so delectably steeped in that fluorescent Daft Punk-like French touch. The upbeat head wagger will have you singing along in no time. Melody is out now via Warner Music Group, here.

We haven’t heard much from French production duo Basic Tape much of the year, and I’d be lying if I didn’t confess how often I’ve wondered what the pair have been up to. Turns out, they’ve been preparing some “cool” funky vibes for us, with creamy South Londoner crooner HUNTAR in tow! Jam out to infectious piano house banger Cool, an upbeat and invigorating, chic and suave club meets pop track that’s anything but “basic”. Hopefully, Cool is a sign of a new string of fine tunes to come from the Parisian duo. Stream Cool via alternate major outlets, here.

Current Mood:  “We're doing it all the same”. I am overfull with understanding for my fellow man. Sometimes you just lock eyes with a stranger (like, say as a totally random example during a grown adult’s tantrum in public) and you know they feel the exact same way as you. That their internal self is not so different from your own even if you are usually of the opinion people with man buns look ridiculous. That they too bleed red. If only we hadn’t briefly bonded over astonished contempt. There’s always next time, I guess.

“Cool (f. Huntar)” by Basic Tape

Parisian duo, Basic Tape just released their new single, “Cool” with London singer, Huntar. The song has racked up 231k streams in the week of its release.

A series of claps and stingy piano keys introduce the song before Huntar starts his call out of a hot and cold love. “You want me to be all about you, but I’m cool” he sings in the chorus over a heavy bass after singing that he “can see the things you’re not with all the secrets you keep hiding.”  The funky track makes it clear that Huntar is done playing games with this love that only wants him when he doesn’t want them.
