If you’re not reading “Local Hero” by the incredibly talented duo @basic-banshee and @god-is-bready, you are missing out on some of the best quarantine entertainment in the Carry On/Wayward Son fandom. This picture is straight out of Baz Pitch’s Instagram (or rather, straight out of Chapter 14) and is a pretty good representation of how I think canon!Baz would look if he’d never been bitten. :)

It’s a picture of us at the pub, sitting in front of the microphones. Shep must have taken it sometime during the recording, but I don’t remember seeing him do it. Baz has his chin propped on his hand, his hair in his eyes a bit as he glares me with that look he gets sometimes—half annoyed, half smiling because he thinks I’m stupid. I’m grinning, my mouth open and clearly mid-shout, my beer waving in the air. I look like an absolute fucking idiot. — Simon

Me, too! Me too!

So this is probably by last drawing for bit. I’m thinking less about my sketchbooks and eyeballing my paints, and might be the last of the Carry On stuff for the time being. But anyway, if you’re here for the Carry On stuff, then I imagine you’ve read @basic-banshee​‘s and (shamefully doesn’t know the other writer’s name) fic “Local Hero” over on Ao3 (took me a while to figure out what that meant). It’s spawned some fabulous art by @vkelleyart​ and in a tick of inspiration I decided to also do a thing:

I’m not 100% happy with it, but I think I’ll attempt a round 2 at a later time. (Lesson learned from watercolour: if things start to go south, abandon ship!) The idea is there.(Don’t ask what happened to the cleats). I might also say that I hope I got the rainbow colours right. I wasn’t sure if it’s any rainbow or if Pride has a specific pattern (I’ve seen a couple). I’ve come to the recent awareness that I’m not as progressive or as socially aware as I thought I was (Uni class of ‘09 here), but I’m working on it. This was also done in my Opus Daily Practice prompts, “Reflect.”

Bonus Baz!

Another ‘not what I intended’ but close enough. I got so mad at my starting fails that I cut the idea in half and just did this part. The missing half? A cat/kitten that is awkwardly puffed up and hissing at him.

The last moments of @basic-banshee‘s amazing fic, rebel rebel chapter 11: Who Loves the Sun? (Part 1) . rebel rebel is now FINISHED and OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE FIC! Which is why I’m drawing it... extremely slowly.... But I have a tablet now finally, so that might help, but no promises.

I don’t have many opportunities to contribute creatively to fandom here on tumblr because my job sucks all my creative juices, but I couldn’t resist drawing Baz’s coming out from rebel rebel, my current favorite WIP. (I also might be unable to resist drawing the kiss scene in the most recent chapter in which Simon wears this very jacket.) So thank you, Ban, for the amazingly inspiring content!

i am once again on a carry on kick. this time it’s because i’m reading @basic-banshee‘s “the pitch” series and i’m thinking about how much i love baz’s aesthetic anyway, go read the fic
