Le jeudi 8 avril 2021, la loi Molac sur les langues régionales était adoptée par l'Assemblée nationale à une large majorité. Le jeudi 22 avril, une soixantaine de députés de la majorité déposaient une saisie au Conseil constitutionnel....
In a move that’s shocked and infuriated provincial deputies, the law that was due to protect regional languages has been put on hold, the Constitutional Council having been seized by sixty dissenting majority deputies who want the constitutionality of the measure to be ascertained - just before the deadline would have passed for such a seizure to take place. The Constitutional Council’s decision is set to take place no later than May 22.
On April 26, a massive protest in support of the Brezhoneg language took place in front of the Parliament of Brittany, and the next day, April 27, The Presidents of the Public Offices of the Basque, Breton, Catalan and Occitan languages spoke out to express their disapproval of the seizure, with deputies from the provinces saying that the LREM measure was undertaken without internal debate.
Of the sixty deputies whose names were associated with the seizure (the official list not having been published, stirring further outrage), over a dozen have rescinded their support of it, several threatening to leave the party in protest, feeling deceived.
Florian Bachelier, Rennes majority deputy and quaestor, has said, “I am angry. This appeal was filed by deputies, mainly Ile-de-France, who deny that France is rich in its diversity and who deny this beautiful project carried out in 2017 by the President of the Republic of differentiating territories.
