The best of 2019 generated this collage based on the number of likes, but definitely does not summarize all the best of this year. ✨ 2019 was filled with many unexpected blessings and first timers. New dog, new co-workers, new solo travels, new boyfriend. Never did I imagine any of that would happen this year. Never thought a dog who was lost & neglected would find us, take shelter in my garage & become apart of the family. Never thought I’d get so close to my new co-workers and love ‘em. Never thought I’d meet an amazing person like John, and get taken off the market after 3.5 years of the single life. 2019 was filled with a lot of solo hiking and solo trips with myself that I found peaceful & to which brought a new sense of independence. I love my own company & traveling with myself lol. I crossed off 2 new National Parks, met a lot of people along the way and hiked a couple of new travel destinations protected by the state and on Navajo territory. I ran 9 races total adding to the 15 half-marathons I’ve ran so far. We said goodbye to Bruce Bochy this year with the @sfgiants, I turned 31, experienced some loss, said goodbye to certain people in my life; but welcomed new people into my life, and the list goes on. With all of that happening in 2019, this year was actually a great year to conclude the decade. I’m grateful for all the blessings from this year & look forward to what 2020 and the new decade has to offer. Cheers to new beginnings everyone! I'll never forget the moment when my Grandpa said that he was proud of me and that he was happy for me. (Talking about nursing).

And then he changed the subject saying..."You're getting old now. When are you getting married? Isn't it your time soon?" LOL. My Grandma & I looked at each other, "HELL NO!" Haha.

Money & Grandparents....

I’m really close with my grandparents because they raised my brother and I since we were little. However, a few days ago when they were over to pick some lemons from my backyard…they wrote my brother and I a check each for $1,000. I don’t like accepting money from anyone, especially from them. But they find it rude when I try not to accept money from them. They’re the typical Filipino grandparents that are well off. This isn’t the first time where they surprised me a with a check that was worth a grand. This is probably the third time that they’ve done this.

I always say to them, “this is too much, I can’t accept this. What is this for? I don’t need all this money.” and both my Grandpa and Grandma will always say, “its for your lunch money.” I always look at them and laugh, “I don’t eat that much grandpa & grandma.” They would reply back, “just use it for your sandwiches.” Obviously they have a great sense of humor.

When it comes to receiving money from family members on birthdays, holidays, or random occasions such as this, I honestly put all my money into my savings. I’m not the type of girl that would spend all of her free money or financial aid money on make-up and clothes. I’ve seen girls actually do this, and I just shake my head. I don’t do that. Why? Because when you’re a broke college student, tuition (especially in medical school or nursing school) is twice as expensive. I’m actually pretty wise on how I spend. If I ever wanted to buy clothes or personal stuff, I’d use my own money. It’s a whole different ball game now that I quit my job for Nursing school. Didn’t really have a choice because I need all that time to study. My usual spendings always go towards things that I need for school, food, and gas.

I guess what I’m trying to say is…yes i’m very fortunate to have grandparents and parents that are well off. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t work hard for what I earn, because I do. They’re well off because they worked hard when they were my age, just like how I’m working hard and struggling now. Usually when I say that I’m a nursing student, first reaction I get from people is, “oh you’re going to be rich.” Ya, that might be true…but I worked hard, studied hard, and worked my ass to get where I am right now. I’m always passionate about what I do and what I’m working towards as.

Sorry for the vent. I’m grateful for everything that I receive. I just feel guilty for having to take that check that my grandparents gave to me as a present. I really don’t like accepting anything from them. They just tell me that it would hurt their feelings if I don’t take it. Filipino parents/grandparents are always like that.
