Company

I stretch out, look down into the water, and see a small cat paw in my bath. Or rather, I see its print: an airy cat must have walked over the surface while I blinked. Now, it has been replaced by a cute blue monster, which stares at me with big eyes, its elephant-like trunk curled up into the bubbles.

From below, a seal looks up as if begging for food, but throwing it my rubber fish would only make it disappear, not satisfy its hunger. Even as I lie very still in order not to disturb it, the seal dissolves slowly in the heat and takes the tension in my muscles with it.

The rainbow of soap gradually turns into an empty night blue galaxy as my company disappears. I suppose I shouldn't regret it. After all, I took a bath in order to be alone for a while. I never invited the neon pink jellyfish the bath bomb threw at me. And yet, as the brightly coloured animals are all gone, I must admit I miss them.
