Scarecrow and Jervis were the hardest to design given DC's extreme lack of consistency... But I'm really happy with how they turned out! My Jervis design has dwarfism, so that's why she's so short compared to the others (I'd love to see more disabled people in drag...:p). Scarecrow was inspired by mugler and runway fashion (imagine: scarecrow strutting down the catwalk and blasting you with 8000 nightmares worth of fear gas). Ventriloquist was inspired by Marlene Dietrich/noir. As you can see, scarface is just a mini her.

Hello! It seems like every one of my posts these days is me apologising for a break in my activity. I have been working on a lot of art (that I'm not proud of enough to put here) and writing (that I'm not brave enough to put here), but hopefully there'll be a bit more activity around here soon! For now, take these concept sketches for Arnold Wesker and Scarface.

(I don't like the trousers I drew Arnold with. Next time, they'll be a plain brown or something.)

I don’t usually take requests, but since you asked so nicely, I’ll make an exception and do this one. Thanks for asking so politely, I hope you’ll enjoy them!

Arnold is a very soft-spoken caregiver, rarely raising his voice.

He tends to fuss quietly, adjusting blankets, making sure you’re warm enough, checking if you’ve eaten, all done in a shy, hesitant way, like he hopes he’s doing it right.

He reads stories out loud in the evenings, sometimes using different voices without realizing it. The storytelling becomes more animated when he relaxes, especially if he notices you smiling or getting sleepy.

Arnold is very attentive to routines. He finds comfort in predictable schedules, so snack times, naps, and bedtime often happen at the same hour each day.

He keeps a small collection of simple comfort items nearby, like soft blankets, warm socks, maybe an old stuffed toy he insists is “just in case you need it.”

When you’re feeling overwhelmed or scared, he prefers quiet comfort over big gestures, like sitting beside you, offering his hand, or gently patting your shoulder until you calm down.

He gets quietly proud when you complete small tasks, offering soft praise like, “You did very well… I’m proud of you.” It’s sincere and warm, even if he looks a little embarrassed saying it.

Arnold makes very simple and cozy snacks, like warm soup, toast, and cocoa.

If you have trouble sleeping, he’ll sit nearby until you drift off, sometimes humming absentmindedly without realizing it.

He worries a lot about doing a good job and may occasionally ask soft questions like, “Are you comfortable? Is there anything you need?” as wanting reassurance that you feel safe.

I love being autistic about a character and making a shit ton of posts about said character because it makes me able to tell when someone else becomes autistic about the exact same character by liking a shit ton of my posts.

He's actually neither of those! He's sentient and can talk and think freely without aid of someone handling him.

However, he can only move to a degree. He can't really stand or walk, which is why he's always held and moved by Arnold. Scarface can move his head, jaw, eyes, eyebrows, and hands all on his own, even if his hands aren't fully articulated, just being one full piece with a little separation of the hands.

He can speak without being held, although the voice comes out rather disembodied. If he is held, then the voice comes out from his puppet mouth.

This creates some fun "paranormal"-esque situations and moments with Scarface. Like.. Batman takes Scarface for the first time away from Arnold, and when he takes what he assumes is just a doll with maybe some kind of device inside it like you also assumed, Scarface tilts his head to look at Batman, squinting and the jaw popping open to speak, but the voice isn't connected to the body as no one is touching it.

Batman is thoroughly surprised and uncomfortable by that.

It can be a lot of fun with The Ventriloquist character duo when presented like this. Makes people question the sanity of Arnold as well as his skills of ventriloquism. It also makes people question just what is with Scarface? Possessed by a ghost? Remote controlled? A vessel for Arnold to project his assumed mental problems through? When really.. Scarface is an entire living character of his own, although he's not living in the same sense that most other things are.

I'm not sure what his entire lore/backstory is or could be, but I do like the mystery and speculation being up in the air. Adds more fun to it!

Started watching the animated The Batman series the other day. So far I really like the aesthetic and theme song. As for the rogues in this version...

Not sold on all of them yet, but the Clayface story was really good and tragic. I like how they gave us several episodes to get to know the character first. The scene where he starts changing and runs out into the streets calling for help, but is unable to speak properly – good stuff. 👌

Riddler has a weird, very different design from what I'm used to, but I don't mind it? Him playing 20 Questions with Batman to figure out his identity was hilarious, I loved that. Wish they used him more.

Penguin...is a bit annoying, but at the same time he's annoying in almost a funny way. Can't believe he's voiced by SpongeBob. 😆

Joker has potential. It's cool that he can actually fight pretty well here. Kind of feel like this show overuses him and Penguin, though, to be honest.

I like Catwoman's outfit and hair. Glad her ears aren't just little devil horn points, but they're also a bit /too/ big. Appreciate that she has cats and cares about saving animals, as that's an important part of her I feel gets left out sometimes, but it still needs more focus.

Bane, Manbat, and Freeze aren't grabbing me so far. Don't know why they bothered to use Freeze if they're just going to reduce him to a thief, as if we don't have enough.

Not sure about Firefly, though I like that he's voiced by the guy who does Kovu (Lion King 2), Haku (Spirited Away), and Max (Goofy Movie).

Scarface and the Ventriloquist seem decent. Not much to say about them, they're pretty similar to the BTAS versions. Scarface's appearance is kind of weird, however. He looks very skeletal.

Poison Ivy is interesting so far. It's cool that they actually made her younger here, as it sort of makes them go a different route from having her be a seductress, plus we got to see how she tried to help plants before she became Poison Ivy. She's way underutilised here, though. Why did they wait so long to bring her in?

Ragdoll is a villain I haven't seen before and honestly thought he looked like Scarecrow at first (too bad he isn't in this). I enjoy him so far. His voice and personality are entertaining. Then I found out he was Jeff Bennett, who also voices the Creeper, who was a fun character. No wonder.

For Killer Croc, I think it fits well that they gave him a Cajun accent. That comment about how he might have trifled with the wrong kind of voodoo opens up interesting possibilities. I still always find it strange when he looks so completely crocodilian, though.

Speaking of strange, I enjoy Hugo Strange so far. He's a character who has a lot of potential for fun scenarios.
