Rowling: Favourite message from a book?
The end of the Mahabharat. The Pandavas were on the right side of the great war, even if they were far from perfect. Still, the war caught up with them. Still, they had to pay for their actions. And the triumph of justice is anything but sweet. (If only the Nostoi weren’t lost, blast it)
But the most powerful part? Yudhishthira and the dog. Even if that dog was Dharma in disguise, Yudhishthir’s refusal to betray what he thought was a stray animal even for Svarga - is so poignant.
Austen: 3 favourite characters?
Do epic heroes count as characters? Let’s say they do, for the purpose of this question.
* Diomedes Tydeides. That man can tell the other Akhaian chiefs: “You guys can all run away if you like, I’M STAYING ” - and *mean* it.
* Antigone the way Sophokles portrays her. There are laws more important than those created by kings.
* On a more lighthearted note: Xanthias from the Batrakhoi. He’s just too relateable and funny, and full of salt and vinegar.
