Titanic Eyewitnesses Testimony Ep.1 - Charles Lightoller

Commander Charles Herbert Lightoller, DSC & Bar, RD, RNR was a British mariner and naval officer who was the second officer on board the RMS Titanic.

This interview was originally aired by the BBC on November 1, 1936 as part of the series, “I Was There.”

On April 14, 1912, RMS (Royal Mail Steamer) Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic at exactly 11:40 PM on her maiden (first) voyage. She took 2 hours and 40 minutes to sink, as her stern went under the surface at exactly 02:20 AM on April 15. She has 2,208 people on board, and only 712 survived. 1,496 are lost. Only 367 bodies are found.
