Born under the name Alexandros, in Athens in the 6th century, BC, Fletcher lived a challenging life. Young Alexandros was born to a Hetaera (well-educated, high-society courtesan), however, when she became pregnant with the boy, his father, a wealthy and influential leader, had them sent away to avoid a scandal. Alexandros and his mother traveled the country, seeking small, low-paying work. The boy learned quickly to keep his head down, his hands busy, and his mouth shut. When he was 14, he was sold to a slaver to pay some of his mother’s debts. It was soon after, that he was approached by a man identifying himself as a Roubinud demon, and explained that his race existed for the sole purpose of helping good people who needed it most. The man agreed to take Alexandros on as an apprentice, and, after twenty years, Alexandros was made Roubinud demon himself, declaring a specialty in using physical strength to help the needy.
As his name means “protector of man”, Alexandros kept his given name as he worked for hundreds of years as a Roubinud demon, saving the weaker and needy from stronger, corrupt, and oppressive forces. In the 18th century, he was assigned to a new charge, a young Turkish boy named Musa. Alexandros saw that the only way to protect the boy from his violently abusive father was to remove him from the household altogether. Alexandros raised the boy, helped him learn a trade (he had a promising career as a cobbler), and grew very close to Musa. Decades later, when Alexandros recieved word that he was to be assigned a new charge, he helped Musa (now an older man, old enough to pass as Alexandros’ father) onto a ship to America and asked his dearest human friend if there was any last thing he could do for the man. Musa said that his only wish was to have a son, someone to raise to be a good man, just as Alexandros raised him to be a good man. Alexandros introduced Musa to a young English boy on the ship, Samuel, after sensing the boy’s need to not be alone, before he said goodbye to his friend.
After a few years, when his next job was complete, Alexandros made a trip to Boston, only to find that Musa had been killed and the boy, stricken with grief and hungry for revenge, had sold his soul to become a contract demon. Distraught by this news, Alexandros no longer felt himself deserving of his name and no longer uses it. He has used many names since, none permanent, but he currently goes by Fletcher Brandt.
Fletcher’s current job is in New York City. Concerned by the influx of supernatural creatures in New York, the head of the Roubinud order sent Fletcher to work alongside the Slayer Organization to help them fight these powers and keep peace in the city.
