My father who passed away in April was a prolific writer both of poems as well as personal correspondence. He always wrote everything by hand, in cursive of course. I kept all the letters he sent me in one location - or so I thought. Yesterday I was going through my nightstand drawer looking for something and I found this letter. It’s from a little over ten years ago and I had forgotten he sent this to me. I am of course beaming with pride at its contents.

For those of you who may not be able to read my dad’s poor handwriting or cursive because you were not taught that in school, it says the following: “You are the son we hoped for and the man to carry on the [redacted] family into the future. Thank you for your love and support through the years and certainly into our old age.”

Thanks Dad, I will do my best to carry on the family name and traditions. And thank you for helping me become the man I am.
