I was really sleepy when I woke up. Then I saw this. I thought it was just wind until I went outside and took this picture.
The chain is in bits ☹️☹️. The feeder itself is intact.
I realized the jays yelling at me while I inspected and saw this
It's functional on the ground. The mounting piece is still wrapped to the tree. I can't find one of the latch pieces for the top part but the electronics seem ok.
So I went to last night's visitor footage on the bird camera
I'm really glad I didn't have it in me to refill the seed last night. It was practically empty. Would hot seed have pissed off the bear? Unfriendly pointed out that they go after beehives and don't mind stings so the capsaicin probably wouldn't have affected it.
The video sounds unsettling to me. It's really cool in theory, but we left the sliding glass door a bit open last night since it was nice. So glad I didn't skimp on tidying the kitchen though I was tempted. I made a roast yesterday in the slow cooker but everything was soapy and rinsed out if not loaded into the dishwasher. Because we're basically in the foothills, I don't like leaving any kitchen food mess because of bugs and gnats. And bears now. 😯
I couldn't do that whole backyard sleeping a tent thing in Miami because of bugs and I didn't grow up in the greatest area so my parents wouldn't have allowed it. The kids here would have an authentic camping in the woods experience I guess.
You are not a bird!
I did mention to @unfriendlypedestrian that I didn't like leaving the sliding glass door fully open with just the screen protecting us because of the possibility of a bear wandering through and deciding to wander in. Did not expect the bear thing to actually happen.
Edited to add: I was not sleepy after watching the video!!!!!
