Alexis is one of the most powerful men in the Empire. He is cousin to the empress mother, the Duke of Víren, one of the five generals of the Imperial army and extremely rich. But he is seen by politicians to be quite harmless since he interferes with politics as little as possible. He likes to be underestimated and watch by, it gives him room scheme in peace. And make no mistake he is a schemer and an opportunist. He was never very good at killing, but he is one of the brightest strategists alive. But on the surface is friendly and cheerful man, with passion for food and wine.

No one seems to know Vauquelin’s real name, but since he was a child, he’s been known as Vauquelin, “stranger” in algonian. From very young age he’s lived in the streets of Amari. He formed a child gang around him, Fiolew was also once part of it. He’s a natural leader and enigmatic speaker. On the outside he may seem calm and composed, but that just hides his bad temper, cruelty and tendencies for violence. The once small child gang has now become a crime organization with connections to Cabalusian rebels. He seems like a man who believes in nothing, but he has great ambitions.

Cateline joined Vauquelin’s gang, when she was four. She was malnourished, tiny and mute. Vauquelin adopted her as his sister and named her Cateline. After that her loyalty to him has been unwavering. He though her how to steal and use knives, and when she grew older she learned how to use almost any weapon. She is agile, quick, strong and deathly. In the underworld she is as feared as Vauquelin. She is cold and calculative, but also fiercely protective towards people she cares about, especially Vauquelin.

Sharanai - or Emilia as her official imperial name is - is always underestimated, but she has learned that it’s only to her advantage. She is ambitious and cunning, qualities her husband, emperor Augustus, certainly isn’t. She despises him and his hedonistic and whore-mongering ways. A year ago, after republic revolution in Manoa, most of the nobility was executed, including her royal family. And on top of it, she doesn’t have a heir yet after five years of marriage. She is scared of loosing her power, it could even lead to her loosing her life too.

Fianne is an angry spirit of trees burned by humans. Now they have a raven body, after Cassia gave it to them. Before they met her, they lured humans into the woods with illusions and ate their souls. When Cassia and her twin, Tacita, were lost in the forest after the Fall, they ate Tacita’s soul and soon she died of illness. However Tacita’s deep love for her sister tainted Fianne’s spirit and they couldn’t do the same to Cassia. Eventually they befriended her and even helped her survive the forest. They have sharp tongue, dark sense of humor and no shame whatsoever.
