Ode to Roller Derby

I had the immense honor to immortalize the one and only Evil Redhead... on her glorious self!

We started this half a year ago and finally completed the rainbowy background (see last two slides for the intermediate results of our first and second session). Poor Evil got a bit of a swollen face because I forgot the battle makeup last session and just added it now. :D

BearCity is a 2010 American gay-themed comedy-drama film. It stars Joe Conti as Tyler, a young gay man in the "twink" category who fantasizes about larger, hairier men known as "bears", and his search to find the perfect man. Tyler picks up the courage to finally go to a gay bar for bears, where he meets a new team of friends, some of whom later become his roommates and one of them, Roger, his love interest. It doesn’t really go smoothly at first because Roger is so popular with everyone, but later on things start settling. The other bear friends from the team are also all coupled and all have their own problems - Brent and Fred are trying to find a way to get out of their routine with Brent suggesting to open up their relationship and try sleeping with other people, but Fred isn’t happy about it. One other couple is having a problem because one of the partners is obese and wants to go to a surgery thinking life would be easier for him being thinner, while the other partner doesn’t think that would solve anything and wants him to stay the same as he likes him the way he is.

It’s a cute movie with a happy ending and it’s always nice to see some positive body image, as there is no body shaming in this movie. Even though the movie is centered around the bear scene, there’s also a couple of twinks there too, so if you’re not into bears you might still want to give it a try.

So sad - RIP Doug Langway ! This was from premier of Bear City 3! He and his films were such a part of my life as a part of the NYC bear scene of the 2000s till today.
