Beat x Eri commission for @sunder-the-gold

[A story only Hachiko knows] long comic strip and birthday gift for @areiml​. This is my imagination of a story set during the 3 years between OG and Neo, featuring a short meeting between Eri and Beat as they talked about how everyone was coping with Neku’s disappearance and moving on with their own lives. 

This comic referred to several comic strips I made before, sorta intertwined between canon game lore, my thoughts on the unexplored potentials of Eri’s role in the story and my friend & I’s BeatEri fever dream. I imagined it would be set at around 3-6 months after Neku’s disappearance and shortly before the gang entered high school. I never thought it was gonna be this long as it all started out as a few whimsical panels. While the comic has mentions of NeShiki and BeatEri, you can read it as general friendship if that’s your preferred interpretation (save for the bonus piece below). 

I actually have zero confidence writing Beat’s dialogues, tho I’m pleased with his design - which I put together by imagining Beat without his knitted cap, plus changing to some of his favourite WildBoar threads. My friend joked that since I’m used to draw sparkly Composers, I made Beat so handsome that even his parents won’t recognise him. Eri is canonically pretty, so I wanted to depict her as TV-star-pretty. Another trivia is that Beat generally isn’t a dessert fan, he also tends to dislike fruit-flavoured desserts and only enjoys chocolate-flavoured ones so it was a surprise that strawberry is his favourite boba flavour lmao. Now who does strawberry boba remind me of? Guess.

With this done, I’m one comic strip away from having enough materials for an anthology. The “final” strip was already drafted along with the Composers strip. If we’re lucky, I might get to draw it next year.

Eri breathes a sigh. She put down the pencil on her sketch pad she was sketching new clothing designs.

Eri was sitting on her bed. Wearing Mr. Mew PJ’s. Her long-sleeved shirt had Mr. Mew's face on the front of the shirt; the bottom in a pattern of him. Her knees are close to her chest, holding the sketch pad as a surface aside from the cardboard surfaces from the front & back.

She was sketching clothing designs for the new clothing lineup. Meaning, Eri, wanted to introduce new designs for the lineup. She sketch shirts, skirts, dresses, hats, jackets, all sorts of things that they could do for the line up.

She can’t wait to show them to Shiki! She knew that she would make them incredible! Her skills in sewing, woven them together with skilled hands to amazing pieces of clothing.

She was just amazing... But now, she should take a break. She needed to rest to do more designs; also Shiki would get upset if she didn't take care of herself.

She put her sketch pad & pencil in her drawer. Then stretched her fingers from holding the pencil for too long.

But… then she feels two strong but gentle arms wrap around her waist. She cranes her head to see someone who never failed to make her heart flutter.

It was beat.

He was wearing a white tank top & black shorts. His chin on her shoulder; his blue ocean-like eyes held nothing but love & affection in his gaze, making her stomach do like a summersault.

“You ready for bed, ‘yo” He asked. His breath hitting against the shell of her ear. Sending a shiver down her spine. Heat rising to her cheeks. “U-Umm… yeah.” She mumbled, making the blonde chuckle.

They jump into the warm fuzzy blankets. Being envelope in it’s warm embrace, along being embrace by their arms.

Beat’s arms around Eri’s upper back & waist. Gently rubbing her back in a soothing manner. His fingers tracing in circles, sending more pleasant shivers. Her head against his chest, listening his calm but steady heartbeat. Slowly Eri’s red crimson eyes droop close; pleasantly drift to a warm & comfortable sleep.

Beat: Of course, I got a GF.

Shoka: Yeah and still baffle me she of all people, fallen for you.

Shiki: Well, him and Eri did became friend. It not hard that Eri started to love him too.

Nagi: Even still, this is unbelievable, at most.

Beat: What, what wrong with me having Eri had my GF?

Shoka: The co-founder of Gatto Nero dating a Worms-for-Brains. No offend but there something wrong with your friend Shiki.

Rhyme: Really, I'm surprised you even know that she even love you and that you even dated her.

Beat: What that supposed to mean?

Rhyme: You are completely oblivious when it come girls where fallen for you, left to right.

Beat: Wait, other check like me?

Rhyme: Yeah and how can you not know? Every valentine's day there where a pale of chocolate on your table.

Beat: Isn't that how valentine work? Like girls giving chocolate to there friends?

Rhyme: Beat some of chocolate you give to me had really not so friendly theme on them.

Beat: What, some of chocolate was rude to ye?

Rhyme: No, some of them seem like where was made with some loving affection put to them.

Beat: Woah, I didn't know that.

Nagi: It seem that Lady Erica where lucky to make you acknowledged her affection for you, Lord Beat.

Shiki: Yeah and I think that because he like her back. Right Beat?

Beat: Yeah, ye got me there Shiki. Can't lie she was hot.

Shiki: I know, Eri had that charm, she was really popular, more so thank to the clothes I made for her per-Gatto Nero.

Shoka: Yeah, there really does show the most skin on them.

Nagi: I do recall seeing her being known for her skimpy clothing outside from school, most of the boy from my classes had deep seated lust for her.

Shoka: Wait, you didn't fall for her because---?

Beat: Woah, Nono. I didn't fallen for her base of her looks.

Rhyme: But you said she was hot.

Beat: Not because she was skimpy yo.

Shiki: Yeah... Beat said that he fallen for her from her hair and her eyes.

Shoka and Nagi: Urr-hah.

Shiki: If anything Eri was the one that find you hot and sexy.

Beat: Me sexy?

Rhyme: You be surprised how people find you sexy.

Beat: Well... em... it not like matter, she love me and I love her.

Shoka: How did you and her end up being a couple?

Beat: Em... it was a week after her 16th birthday. I was just get changed from PE and well she was in the boy room. Wanna to see me.

Nagi: Ooooo. I can see where this going.

Shoka: And what did you and her made out?

Beat: Well we talked and all that. But em... yeah, we funk.

Nagi: Awhwhwhwh wow, 1st base affection.

Shoka: Well that was something.

Shiki: And not what Eri told me! She said she saw you alone, upset, she wanna to check up on you, she comfort you, she confess her feeling for you and then you two make out.

Nagi: Ohohohoh, I see.

Beat: Okay, so maybe I left that part. But come on, I can't show weakness around you ladies.

Shoka: But you show weakness to her.

Rhyme: And really me and Shiki know that you where missing Neku too.

Beat: Yeah, I guess...

Beat: But man I never think I would end up with Eri, even when I keep thinking she was you Shiki.

Shiki: Well I didn't think she would be with you, I guess we event there.
