Not gonna lie, I hate the word "unalive" due to how it's currently being used. There are so many other euphemisms and ways to say someone died that sounds more respectful than that.

Anyways, I couldn't help but think what being "unalive" is when there's also the word "undead". Undead is used for beings who are basically "live corpses" like vampires, zombies, mummies, etc. - dead bodies who move like they're still alive but they are corpses. And then, it hit me - doesn't the word "unalive" describe the characters of TWEWY?

The reapers and players are all just souls who can take on a live form - the reapers can manifest themselves in the RG anytime and the players can do the same when in marked areas - and at that point they could interact with anyone and anything in the living world. But if they die in that state, they'd probably just disappear cause they're just souls - there's no corpse. Their actual dead bodies have probably been buried or cremated at that point. So in the moment these souls manifest as "alive" in the living world, I guess in a way they're "unalive": living ghost like the "undead" living corpses.

The first part of a fashion idea that I desperately wanted to get out there, and I will eventually finish - TWEWY as made by "High Fashion" I was deeply inspired by Gucci for both Kaie and Ayano's looks, using bold striking patterns in simple blocks that emit an aura of sophistication, while remaining entirely readable as their own characters. For Ayano's hair, I was inspired by the idea of Orchid sprouts, and I wanted to really emphasise her elegance with jewelled fishnets and hand crafted undergarments.

Shiba's sense of fashion is the combination of drag culture and the trends of blurring sex and gender with clothes - Shiba's flaunting of his chest always read like the showing of a peacock's fine feathers, and I wanted to play with that idea. Fuya Kawahara's look is specifically inspired by both Hugo Boss FW23 and Pharell's first show for LV - I wanted to incorporate the finer points of dress fashion with the logomania that Pharell has embraced. I do hope to finish bringing these to life as actual doll creations :)

[A story only Hachiko knows] long comic strip and birthday gift for @areiml​. This is my imagination of a story set during the 3 years between OG and Neo, featuring a short meeting between Eri and Beat as they talked about how everyone was coping with Neku’s disappearance and moving on with their own lives. 

This comic referred to several comic strips I made before, sorta intertwined between canon game lore, my thoughts on the unexplored potentials of Eri’s role in the story and my friend & I’s BeatEri fever dream. I imagined it would be set at around 3-6 months after Neku’s disappearance and shortly before the gang entered high school. I never thought it was gonna be this long as it all started out as a few whimsical panels. While the comic has mentions of NeShiki and BeatEri, you can read it as general friendship if that’s your preferred interpretation (save for the bonus piece below). 

I actually have zero confidence writing Beat’s dialogues, tho I’m pleased with his design - which I put together by imagining Beat without his knitted cap, plus changing to some of his favourite WildBoar threads. My friend joked that since I’m used to draw sparkly Composers, I made Beat so handsome that even his parents won’t recognise him. Eri is canonically pretty, so I wanted to depict her as TV-star-pretty. Another trivia is that Beat generally isn’t a dessert fan, he also tends to dislike fruit-flavoured desserts and only enjoys chocolate-flavoured ones so it was a surprise that strawberry is his favourite boba flavour lmao. Now who does strawberry boba remind me of? Guess.

With this done, I’m one comic strip away from having enough materials for an anthology. The “final” strip was already drafted along with the Composers strip. If we’re lucky, I might get to draw it next year.
