Dirge 8”x10” Ink on paper Meditating on death and grief. (All cheery subject matter I know.) Sometimes I ask myself why I go and visit graves of loved ones and perform my own little dirges. Why does it matter? Just to make the living feel better? Why does it seem to stay with you forever, the loss of a loved one? I look to this quote from G.K. Chesterton for perhaps a little insight. “There is the tragedy that is founded on the worthlessness of life; and there is the deeper tragedy that is founded on the worth of it. Another work in progress. Conceptually, this started off the same as previous post “The Birth of Water” 💧 I’ve been learning a quicker version of the mischtechnik, this was the other painting I have been working on in the same process, at the same time. Because you can learn a lot more at a faster rate if you work on more than one painting at a time (at least in my experience, I highly recommend people who are learning painting or drawing to be focussed more on the beginning of a work than bringing it to its completion...)🎨 . However this one evolved by itself, metamorphosis, and my thought processes surrounding what is happening in this painting has changed a lot.. I feel this is the emergence of sound in the world... where there was once chaos, water brought order, but sound - music - brings harmony, beauty, transcendence. 🎼 “A real piece of art, is a window into the transcendent. Division 11”x17” Ink on paper I had a dream last night that I was transported backwards in time. I was in my younger teenage body but with all of my memories of the future intact. I was fully prepared to use my knowledge of the future to create a better life for myself. Maybe invest in some Apple stock or something ( I am that old ). I started to realize the more I changed the more of who I am now began to unravel. I was learning the hard lesson that our struggles and failures define us just as much or even more so than our successes.
